    WARNING: Cackle Hatchery

My guess is you are a postmaster and don't mind dead chicks.

    WARNING: Cackle Hatchery

Let me enlighten you folks about the inner workings of the USPS. My wife — who is in her 26th year as a rural route carrier — battles every single day fighting for you the customer. Furthermore, the management is severely lacking and often involves favoritism and find any way to cut corners to...

    Too much time to enforce

HeatherKB I am in the same exact situation. I live in a small rural community and have spoken with city officials. The biggest hangup is enforcing any ordinance. They kept bringing up dog tags and how very few purchase them. She told me they don't have the manpower of 1 officer to go around and...

You all probably have hatched a few BCM out before, but I thought I'd post mine anyway because you just can't get enough Marans chick hatching. Enjoy!

HI shortzy007 and the Marans thread. BCM usually start laying around 21 to 23 weeks old. Looks like you have about another month or so to go. I've had pullets lay at 21 weeks and some at 24. The waiting is the hardest part.

I'm not sure of the photo, but yes, my cockerel did come from her. He is a very nice looking boy. Thank you for the well wishes on my hatch. It looks like you've got a very good hatching plan of your own. Best of luck on your hatchings. It appears you'll have your hands full!

There's nothing quite like finding your first dark Marans egg. Congratulations! It looks very pretty. I still get flutters everyday to see what my girls left me.

Thank you Zanna and yes they are. My girl, VenRed, is from Bev Davis/Adamson line. She's the best of the best I've hatched out last season and now I'm incubating her eggs. I'll be doing as many as I can of hers this season. I just love the color and shape of that egg and she's very...

I have a hen that lays reddish eggs. You mean something like this? There's a large variance of color when it comes to Marans eggs and genetics plays a huge role in what you want/breed for.

Awww. Shucks. Thank you Wynette and everyone. My first ribbon. I must say — it feels great! Wynette won 2nd place in the same show! She beat me. And, there's no jealousy what-so-ever. Only gratitude and I feel very fortunate that my entry was place behind her gorgeous eggs.

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thanks for the heads up. I have a couple of those chalky eggs I was going to put in the incubator. They were laid in the run. *sigh* I have no idea what makes them chalky like that. Is it a chemical reaction or something? I don't find these chalky eggs in my nest boxes, just on the coop floor...

Good luck with your hatchings ladies. I hope to be a week or so behind you. I just love hatching eggs — well the first couple of weeks are a bit boring, but the last week is pin and needles! I don't have 150 though. That's bringing in the season right!

Hi rissamdc and the Marans Thread. That's a nice batch of eggs you have there. Our family finds them very delicious. Compared to the other breeds we have, my twin daughters always go for the Marans eggs. They tell me they taste so much better. I had one today and the yoke was so rich. I think...

Greetings Don. I wish I could say the same, but I can't seem to build breeder pens fast enough! I'm working on a hen cage/coop with a nesting box today. I've got one hen that I need to match an egg with. Lots of luck with your hatch!

I am collecting eggs now! I have about ten in the wine fridge now. I should be firing up the incubator maybe next week. I'm so looking forward to it! I love hatching eggs. My girls aren't cooperating much these last few weeks. I think the move to the breeder coop/pen was a bit too much stress...

Top of the mornin' to ya Gilavina! Not too bad yet here in Northeast Kansas. Got some wind whippin' in from the north. Temps are beginning to drop and we're expecting some snow later this evening. My girls are out in their runs for now. Hehe I expect that to change later. I'll be glad when...

Sorry to hear about the loss Donna. I had a really big boy that died last year. I found him face first in the coop. He appeared very healthy and lively at the time. I'm pretty sure he died of heart failure. It's the only thing I could think of. His comb was purplish when I found him. He was...
