I cracked the window on the north side of the big door on my coop and stapled a folded towel over it to prevent direct cold wind coming in. I also do the deep litter method so more insulation for them. no extra light or heat source. I have still been getting 4-7 eggs daily from 13 hens. I put...
He only suffered that last night, I gave him vitamin water which helped the night before. Otherwise he was eating and walking around. Sometimes we aren't able to save them all. My husband believes he pecked into a dead mouse we found in the run because he placed poison traps under the coop...
Poor guy was worst this morning instead of better. Passed away a little after I checked on him. Looking into a necropsy outside, not sure if I want to do it myself. Thx for everyone's concern/advice.
He stayed in the basement last night and was better this morning making his normal noises and eating and drinking. Then this evening it was down on the ground again and couldnt get up. Im wondering if the the cold is starting to wear him down as the day goes on. I havent given him anything...
rooster has been doing better until tonight. I found him lying down in the run right before dark and wouldn't/couldn't get up. I brought him into the house for the night. I felt his crop and it just feels like hard cartilidge. Is this normal? I thought it was suppose to feel spongy. I'm not...
I actually have a Barred Rock rooster that doesn't crow, Never has and he's 8mn old. his supposed sibling is the dominant rooster and crows all the time. I got the two of them and 3 red sex links together when they were 4 weeks old from someone local. He's a lot smaller than my dominant Barred...
Yes it was clipped. my four started pullets I rcd in April were also. I believe Meyer clips all their started beaks. Only the chicks don't get clipped. I haven't had any issues as far as eating or drinking with it.
Yea, my started Leghorn I got from Meyers in September started laying 3 days ago. My original Leghorn still hasn't starred back up and my EE hasn't layed for over a month. My RIR is still laying along with my 3 RedSexLinks I got from someone local. We'll see how the rest of winter goes.
I just notice my 2nd rooster Comb is dark purple and he's eating but seems to have trouble swallowing. A little slow also.no coughing, sneezing. I massaged his crop and it feels hard like cartilage but not full. Could something be in there? Not sure what to do.
I put my four 10wk old chicks in the enclosed run today with the older ones. They have room to run away. The older ones pick at them but are too busy checking out the run.one area is enclosed 8×8 while the other side is 12×12 run, the 8×8 coop is in the middle with a big door on each side and a...
I have four 8 week olds to add to my flock of 9 hens and 2 roosters who are 17 weeks to 6mn old. I'm done after that. Added the 17 wk old by herself and she's still adjusting but better than last week. She's roosting on the lowest roost in the coop.still feels more comfortable with my younger...

I have a new leghorn hen from Meyers between 16&20 weeks old. She did good with my four 7wk old hens. Can I just add her to my current flock of 10 hens and 2 roosters now?
