I got most of them from a hatchery, both Meyers and My Pet Chicken, which at the time got them from Meyers I think, but anyways, I'm not sure if they were vaccinated or not. I'm just so bummed. They hadn't layer eggs since very early Dec. and only layer a few in Nov, then a couple of weeks ago...

I have a question I think I know the answer to, but please lend me your knowledge anyways. I am losing chickens, they start to limp and then a few days later they are dead when we go out to feed them, I have lost 4 this winter, varying ages and breeds. The first one I ever lost to this was...

Well, thank you all for your replies, I know a couple of them are molting for sure, they look awful :) But almost all of August they didn't lay at all, it was so strange then they finally ramped up production again and now it went form normal to 1 in just a few days. The majority are 1 year...

Seems I only come on here with my problems, but my girls are not laying again, and since you all are in MI with the same kind of weather and lighting, are your hens stopping for the darkness yet? I asked a chicken group on facebook and they are saying w/o a doubt hens need 14 hours of light a...

I know I am rarely on here, but when I have questions, sometimes weather is a factor and I feel better asking you guys. My hens only laid 5 eggs today, I have 42 layers, this is a problem. Last Friday night we found a skunk in the coop, after getting him out, we penned all the girls up since...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 22 today from 42 hens, but 30 of them are just starting to lay, so I feel those numbers are pretty great, especially when we are more used to 2/day :)

So is this saying that if labeled correctly like mentioned above, they could be sold, BTW it is not to a restaraunt, but a door to door delivery service, so my eggs would be delevered along with other farmers organic foods. Yes, thank you all so much for the quick responses!!

So around here are there any laws about selling your eggs, like if I can sell them to a restaurant, do I have to have my chickens tested, or candle each one or anything like that. Your wisdom is much appreciated! Thanks!!

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

We got 11 out of a total of 47 but 41 of them are just now old enough to lay and everyday there numbers are increasing, it's so cool! And it's really been cold here, more snow predicted tonight.

Hey guys, a quick question and a quick update. Our 6 hens that are about a year old have pretty much stopped laying, we are getting 1 egg every couple of days, my Hubs wants to make them chicken soup, I told him it's pretty normal for them to stop laying right now, he isn't convinced they...

I love to peruse all the thread on here, I learn so much. Ok so if I feed my chicks grit, I can feed them scraps too, and just to be sure, when you say grit, is this dirt, or something I buy at TSC? I am thinking any day now they will start laying, it's kind of exciting.

Question I even looked it up in my book on chickens and can't find an answer, at what age can I start giving my chicks that are 4mo leftovers like we do our laying hens, you know stuff like watermelon rinds and apple cores, my hens just devour it and I am wanting to supplement there feed with...

my hens are eating the EEs eggs, but not the other ones?

They did it again, I can't seem to get out there fast enough, I did put the golf balls in there, next up, egg shell with soap in it, teach them they taste gross :)

Ugh, they did it again, I can't get out there in time to rescue my EEs eggs before they get eaten, I think I am going to have to build one of those nesting boxes where the eggs roll to where they can't get them, if I can get them to use them that is. They aren't eating there own eggs, they...

I do have electric in my coop, and I only have the 6 hens, I just got a heated dog dish from TSC and so far so good. The dog dish is already set to go off at 40 degrees, so I didn't need a thermocube for that one I did buy an bigger 3gal one it's on it's way from Amazon, and a thermcube...

my hens are eating the EEs eggs, but not the other ones?

I am also going to try separating them and putting a golf ball in there, hopefully it will deter them.

That nesting box looks really cool, right now our current nesting boxes are so big, I could probably retrofit the bottom to do this and still be enough room in there for them to lay, I like it too because soon, I will have 44 more layers and if the boxes were empty, then they could be used over...
