Hi
I apologize of this has been posted before.
I have , had, a 3 year old RIR. Over the course of the last 2 weeks she's been acting weird .
She is as the top of the pecking order.
Last week I noticed she was trying to lay an egg fpr what seemed like a while, when I went to check after she...
My RIR has been acting the same way. She has been fine for the entire time I have had her, since March, until about November, when she started chasing my leg and biting it, then my hand when i reach for them or feed them, puffs up, kicks me and actually draws blood. It make me sad, I may have to...
Thanks everyone for your help! I brought the hens back to where I bought them and said they were sick when I bought them and they took them back, now Ive cleaned everything very well and just brought home 3 new Americanas. The three stoogettes I call them, Laurie, Carol and Moria.. haha! No more...
So I purchased 2 hens from a local farm and brought them home to find out they both are sick! They are sneezing and have that gurgling sound when they breath, and on top of that they have bloody poo sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of this cold?
Hi, Im looking for 3 hens, can be younger or 1 year old. I have one hen who needs companions badly but no one around me has any chickens for sale....... Please help!
From my experience, the chickens wings do not need to be clipped. Mine are free range and never try to fly over fences or anything of that nature. I wouldnt debeak them either, I just bought one 6 month old that was debeaked and it's awful, she can't even eat right. I would of never bought her...
I went and got a 6 month old hen today to replace the one that a bobcat ate yesterday, I got her home and noticed they debeaked her. I'm NOT happy about this.... Will her beak grow back? Does it hurt her? Should I feed her layer mash instead of pellets? Help!!!
The year old hen is pecking the heck out of the 6 month old. Is thus normal? Will they get along eventually? I separated them with a box with holes to see each other, the adult want to get at her.....
I'm sorry to have posted in the wrong forum before under pest/ predators.
I had three of my hens get eaten by a bobcat and now I only have one. We do not want to buy chicks
and keep them separated until they are old enough to get along. Does anyone have advise on how to raise a hen by herself...
The problem is we are afraid to get more and just have them eaten. I was thinking
Of only letting her out when I'm
Outside. She has her coop indoors . And I don't want to have to go through
Getting chicks when they can't be together until they are grown. Can I get a grown bird and introduce...
So I only have one hen left . She us just about to turn 1 year old. My other three were eaten by a bobcat.
Any suggestions on how to continue to raise her? We will not be getting any more.
Will she be alright by herself?
So sad.....
well they have been cooped indoors most of the winter, and this is their second full day out in a long time, there are only 2, I dont have a roo and their diet is still the same. They were outside when I went to pick her up and she bit the heck outa me, I just went down there now and she did it...
Shes always very nice, I pick her up all the time and shes NOT the dominate one in the group, today she was, she pecked the heck out of another hen and i went to pick her up and she bit me AND didnt let go, . She kept biting me and making a "growling" sound..What is the deal? My husband says...
Can I give my chickens parakeet grit instead of chicken grit? The local stores do not carry chicken grit which is annoying. My chickens are indoors for the season. Thanks!
