She did drink a little this am if I put it up to her beak. I got her to eat a little feed by wetting it down into a playdo consistency and making a little torpedo like I did when I cared for my friends cross beak. She is less lethargic and seems to be more irritated with me so hoping that's a...
Well she's still kicking this morning! Does NOT like her meds at all so she's still got spunk.
Any ideas on how to get her to eat? She didn't eat much at all yesterday.
I got the samples and swabs that the vet recommended to hold because the state lab is closed until the new year to confirm but he did say to treat like it is.
Thank you big time!
Heard from the chicken doc and she gave me some tylosin injectable to give orally and terramycin for her eyes.
She says most likely from the wild birds
MJ is currently in isolation in my bathroom with food water love and meds on board!
Help! I've got a call to the chicken vet but its Christmas Eve...
6 month old pullet. Seemed fine at head count last night.
This AM has clear drainage from her eyes, holding eyes clear, lethargic and not eating.
Left eye is a little swollen.
I do have new chickens but they are isolated on...
I've got 4 to 5 inches under the eaves at the roof of ventilation covered in hardware cloth. And I'm not planning on closing the south and west windows unless we are heading down on the teens and lower. I figure if I keep the north window closed so the girls on the lower roost don't get the wind...
My coop is pretty snug. I caulked the cracks that would let drafts hit them on the roosting bars.
I figure if it gets super cold IN the coop ( if we get one of our rare horrible cold snaps) I can always staple some feed bags on the inside to cover up the cracks better. ( i always have 1000s...
Yeah the crazy " which way the wind will blow" in this part of NC is Crazy. The north wall is blocked. Im thinking of making low wind blocks or low tarps on the sides of the run just so they can have a wind proof place to be out of the weather.
Hmmm. I have some old aluminum siding that...
I'm looking into de-icers but only one of my waterers actually opens from the top so the other I would have to dump out if it freezes. I may look into replacing that waterer for the winter to something that I can drop a heater into.
Hello fellow chicken peeps! ( pun intended )
This will be my first winter with my chickens! They are between 8 and 10 months old.
My coop is made of recycled wood so I have gone thru and made sure there are no huge gaps that would let drafty winds through. Some of them I had to caulk over...
So haven't gotten a blue or green egg since the first two... and then I got two very pale tan eggs... then those stopped. Now I have consistently been getting 1 peewee sized pullet tan egg every 2 days. I caught Darla on camera doing that one. Still not sure who laid earlier! Its like a...
I have milk jugs that I cut big head holes in, I just the handle to cable tie them to the hardware cloth. One is grit and one is oyster shell. I have 2 sets of stations like this, one on each end of the run. Food and water are near by

So I lost my 4 month old hen last week.
Necropsy showed roundworms, evidence of a previous infection with coccidia, and nephrotoxic infectious bronchitis.
I have dewormed with panacur per the vets instructions. We are going to wait a week then treat for coccidia just in case, then wait 10...
I didn't think it would be my olive egger that laid first. Of course shes not laying olive eggs but light green eggs but thats fine by me!
Always thought it would be one of my rocks!
Omg I got my first two eggs! One yesterday and one today! I'm 100 percent sure its my olive egger Anna! The eggs are pretty mint green! Pictures don't do it justice!
I had to share with people who would understand!
Jaybyrd!
