I'm wanting to cull our turkeys and geese so we don't spend a fortune this winter on feed. We've always kept our geese with chickens and have never had turkey over the winter so I'm wondering how much we can expect a flock of 3 geese, 4 turkeys to eat. The geese are Toulouse the turkeys are...
Ok I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the little guy until literally tonight I saw his eye was glued shut so I tried rinsing it with some water to loosen the goo but nothing came off and I realized it wasnt just crusty, it was healing shut and theres only a tiny opening now. I could only find...
Thanks for answering. I thought the eggs I'd used were old enough, maybe not. How old should they be?
I'm just worried the yolk will get slimy in the brine or something. Maybe it'll be fine we'll see lol
Has anyone ever seen this before? I used up a whole weeks worth of eggs to make pickled eggs but almost all of them look like this.not hard to peel but the white around the yolk is so so thin it peels away. Anyone know why?
Also, think I can still pickle these?
i read you should keep a bowl of water in the incubator for humidity during hatch i had one chick pip early and he hatched and crawled into the little bowl! so sad. just wanted to post this to warn others.
turns out we couldnt find ourother heat lamp anywhere so we put the young goslings in a box within the brooder to dry off overnight. worked out fine when we introduced them the next day
i got our eggs in the mail and boy are those eggs tiny. the internet said they have medium sized eggs. we have icelandics and theyre eggs are a bit on the small side and the deathlayer eggs are noticeaby smaller. anyone here have deathlayers that can give their opinion on this? is this the breed...
i have separate batches of goslings 4 days apart i figured i could put them together but the size difference surprised me!!! plus when i put one in there they tried to stand on him and pecked him a bit. not bad but i took him out. hes not fluffed yet but they never seem to fluff in the incubtor...
One final update!! Since I cleaned the eggs with hydrogen peroxide I had very few deaths. Batch number one had 4 remaining after cleaning, one died shortly before lockdown he didn't move much for a few days before. 3 goslings hatched but one had something wrong with him, possibly because I...
We decided to put him out of his misery. We waited to see if vitamins and minerals in his water would help but he got worse and worse and would shiver and shake and just could not stand on his feet he'd immediately fall to his side and paddle his feet. When it looked like fluid was coming out of...
Well here's still alive this morning and hes finally taking some of the molasses water. Still didn't look good tho. I'm afraid this will be several days of him suffering. I still want to give him a chance tho.
He shakes a lot too. What is this he's dealing with? Just simple blood loss?
i had 2 others hatch thamkfully so everyone who made it to lockdown made it.
ive been giving him a concoction of crushed b vitamins, molasses, vit e, and probiotics with water. but i dont want to drown him. i know how to drench chickens but cant find anything aboutgoose throats. ive squirted...
hey guys so i made a huge mistake that is sure result in a dead gosling fairly soon. i was watching him unzip nd after a while i thought he stopped so i peeked in under the shell and panicked thinking he had shrink wrapped. so i unpeeled the shell over the air cell but saw veins so i put him...
Oh update he hatched!! All by himself. I am very surprised actually. Unfortunately I was so anxious I helped another guy who would've been just fine on his own but I thought he was unzipping and stopped, so I chipped some already zipped shell away and panicked thinking he was shrink wrapped. I...
