    COLOR BULB INSIDE COOP

Thanks for all the great info. We had a little cold snap and I used a heat lamp , but they were awake all night. I should have known that, but that's why I read these forums. The temps are only in the 30's and I think I will change the bulb and use a timer

Thanks for the great info and photos. I am just geting started with materials on hand and working on tweaking this to work for my situation. As time and $$ arise I will try some other more aggressive ideas that I have seen posted, but my chickens will see the benefit either way.

    Growing fodder for chickens

I just dumped the wheat I was sprouting in a glass jar into some flats that I had poked holes for drainage. Wish we luck. I really want to make this work.

Bring food and water out of the coop during the day?

I have had to move food and water around to either keep the water from freezing or the food from getting blown away, but they always seem to find it! I now have water in the coop and outside. I added a heat lamp and the girls seem to love it. I see them just standing under it warming up...

    Mealworm farming

I have read that we should avoid overhandling the pupae because the "bruising" can cause deformaties. I keep a special drawer for them so the worms can't chew on them, too. I put oatmeal in the drawer to cushion the pupae and always handle then with a small plastic spoon. I cover them with a...

    Mealworm farming

I started reading this blog from the beginning and got to about page 50, but I wanted to check on the more recent entries. I am very glad to hear about using the mask. My worms are doing great by the heater under my desk, but I also have a cough and have noticed a smell. It is great to have...
