Does anyone else get some sort of 'different' little worm coming out of their bins that makes a web and then hatches out to a mothy looking thing?? I am thinking it is coming from the substrate that the original worms comes in. Any ideas how to get rid of them without hurting the mealworms?

CLEAN EVERY WEEK????? Holy cow, after the newness wears off you will realize you only need to clean them up a bit every few months!!! If even that often. Many people on here never clean out anything! But until then......have fun. It is all so exciting.

Oh if you've got more than just a couple of beetles then you already have tons of eggs in there!

    Mega Heat Wave!

I have a foot tub, like you would soak your feet in, filled with water that my girls like to stand in and sometimes sit in, to cool off. But then I also have another one that I fill with water and I add a gallon milk jug that I froze with water sitting in the middle of it to keep it cool all...

I also mostly just use carrots. They dont mold nearly as quickly as the fruity things. And they dont draw in gnats. I also use celery.

It seems to me the mealies would smother themselves in the flour. I wouldnt use that at all. They do need to have some air!! Try not to make this tooooo complicated. It is super easy if you let it be.

Any day now you will see your substrate moving!! Took mine a little over a month before I saw any movement. Then all of a sudden there they were.

For anyone who needs to shut down their farms for any reason, mine being allergies. The beetles freeze just as well as the worms do. They dont stick together and they make a nice crunchy cold treat for the chickies on a hot summer day. I have waaaaay to many beetles to feed out all at once so I...

You could tie the handles together or put a piece of duct tape on the drawers or handles. Not so much to pull them together but simply to remind you to pull them together!!!

You got it totally correct!!! And it is so fun to watch the different stages but please dont worry or fuss to much about it. Separating them is for your own enjoyment. They will do absolutely perfectly fine all dumped into one big bin that you only toss a carrot into every few days!!!!! If you...
