    Broody or eggbound?

Yes, right now there are no eggs or anything in the nesting boxes, just hay. No wonder they call them "bird brained" ! I'll try closing off the coop again now that Sylvia is done laying for today...geeesh....I hope this doesn't go on for a month ! They free range all day in the yard so, will...

    Broody or eggbound?

I can take the nest boxes out of the coop for the day and put them back in at night I guess...or should I leave them out all together until Lucy is over it? What if Lucy decided to "hatch" the golf balls? LOL

    Broody or eggbound?

Today I locked her out for 2 hrs but our other hen wanted to go in and lay an egg and was complaining rather loudly that the door was shut so I went and opened it, Sylvia went in, layed her egg, came out and Lucy went in with her and is refusing to come out again...so...how do I keep them...

    Broody or eggbound?

My 8 month old hen, Lucy, started laying 5-7 eggs a week about a month and a half ago or so. About 4 days ago I noticed she did not come out of the coop when I opened the door, she had spent the night in the nesting box and stayed there. I went to work and she was still there when I got home. I...

My hen just laid her very first egg, how long do I let her sit on it?

Oh my...Mine are just getting old enough to lay..I hope I don't have to run around the yard "looking" ! I keep looking i their nesting boxes but so far..nothing. How do I know they are not laying under the bushes out in the yard? I suppose constantly checking would be what I need to do at this...

Ok...so "Peaches" might be a "Petey" What do you think?

This chicken came from a reputable lady who had ordered them and hoped to start raising them...she is also NPIP certified . They are very knowledgeable and helpful but unfortunatley, I have not had good luck with her chicks. Perhaps most of it being my fault though...anyway..I hate to give "...

This morning my husband and son were startled to hear a "weird" sound ( like crowing, sort of)come from our Sex link, Peaches...her/his? comb has grown larger than my other hens ( they are all 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 mos old now, and I know some hens do have larger combs. I am praying Peaches is a hen...
