I am lactose intolerant and can add the whey to any shakes or smoothies I make. However, I can't use whey butter. I don't want to feed them massive amounts of it. I only give my chickens yogurt when they have digestive issues (from stress...like in the summer when we start mowing around their...
I'm sure this has all been asked before, but I can't seem to find any info other than searching on Google and finding old threads with vague mention of each of these questions.
1) We have a mix of the following roosters: Black Australorp; Buff Orpingtons; Sussex; Turkens; Columbian...
Thank you so much! I hope it's a girl!! We're currently playing the guessing game with many of our chicks as well...but just to see who is for meat and who is for eggs. I really, really hope she is a...SHE! :-)
Just pet quality. I don't show any of my birds. Our flock is kept for eggs and meat. She would be kept for a pet and to see if she might want to be a mama chicken to fertilized eggs. If she's no good at it, we'd just hang onto her for a pet.
Looking for a silkie hen within a two hour drive from Valatie, NY (in Columbia County).
We want to integrate her into our existing flock, and order some fertile eggs so she can set.
Plus, I really want a silkie :-)
My additions below are going to be in RED.

Chick 1 - Golden Laced Wyandotte OR Buff Rock Not a Buff Rock--the chick would look like the Buff Orpington. What type of comb? It looks straight from this angle which Wyandottes don't have although may...
Mine aren't afraid of the wind, but they will hunker down in the lawn if it's a really windy day. Mine are free-ranged when we are home (and sometimes when we're just running to the store or to get ice cream or something), in a run when we are not, and in a large coop at night, or when the...
And it's weird because only Chicks 1, 2, and 3 have grey legs...or mostly grey legs. I really don't want to go look at the dead ones and see if we lost both of the girls that were supposed to be Araucana/Amer...
We didn't expect them to be "true" Araucanas...they were listed as Araucanas/Americanas. I'm ok with whatever they are...we just wanted blue or green eggs lol. But a Sussex means I can't get attached to their little chipmunk butts...because Sussex should be all roos for meat. I am NEVER...
Using a hatchery directory on motherearthnews.com, we found a few hatcheries. I live in Columbia County in New York. The one in Fayette is the only one that offers various breeds. There aren't even any in neighboring states that have chicks. And there definitely isn't anyone around here that...
OK. On Post #36, I've edited it to include the breeds of the chicks that I was taking a guess at. If I'm way out in left field, or even just a smidgen wrong, let me know. Please.
Like I posted earlier, we lost so many chicks out of this order that we are looking at another hatchery where we...
It's a
It's a brand new laptop with Windows 8...I haven't figured any bit of it out yet lol. My husband is better at it than I am...and with housework and job-work, I don't have much time to fiddle around with it and figure it out. I thought I had it set to recommend updates but not...

Chick 4 - Columbian Wyandotte
Chick 5 - Columbian Wyandotte
Chick 6 - White Giant
Chick 7 - Buff Orpington OR Red Star
Chick 8 - Buff Orpington OR...
I'll get some pictures of their lil feets tomorrow afternoon when I do the pasty-butt shuffle. We just wanted blue or green eggs lol. We weren't picky.
Soon we also want an Olive Egger and one that lays the chocolate colored eggs.
And I want a broody next year to raise chicks from eggs. We...
Thank you in advance, everyone, for the help. We have our own assumptions about breeds but we tried this last year and we were wrong. 50% of the time lol.
It's the chipmunky ones that really confuse us. And that smooth rust colored one ( well, two...wing of bird one, wing of bird two, and belly of the larger bird).
They could nearly be anything. The two thick striped one could be a RIR...that's what my last RIR chicks looked like. The really...
