I agree with the general lack of information. There is so much missing information on chickens tbh. One would think we would know everything there is to know about them by now but sadly the vast majority of the studies are done on commercial chickens which sometimes is relevant but often isn’t...
I hope they never do learn, almost every day I chicken sit she hops up to say hello. Juniper does too but not as consistently as Chervil. Thyme does as well only very occasionally, he’s to busy trying to woo the girls now.
Mug Monday
Speaking of Chervil, she says hello to everyone at FBA...
Challenge accepted!
Temptation 1 - First up hands down personal favorite (they would revolt if I didn’t include them) Swedish Flowers
Temptation number 2 - Shetland because they are adorable and they lay blue/green eggs.
Temptation number 3 - double silver laced Barnies because omg they are...
Today, I let the flock free-range in the yard. Chervil, the queen of charm, always hops up when I chicken sit and says hi. After a quick headcount, I turned to head inside, but the whole gang trailed me like, “Hold up, don’t go!” Laughing, I turned back to chat with them, and Chervil locked...
Some sad news -
Roxy passed, no sign of any predation, we found her in the coop. She had that odd neurological thing when she was a very tiny chick though but it cleared up after just a few days. I thought she had overcome that challenge but apparently not something was just not right. :(...
A brief flock update:
Pebble has decided that attacking people may not be working for him and has calmed down thankfully. He now only does it when herded which he still really objects to. I can work with that.
The SFH’s are all grown up. I think all the girls are laying now. Thyme is a...
Beautiful birds and I happy you have them and that George’s legacy will continue on.
Ha! What a great capture. The answer of course is all of them!
Taking time is necessary, completely expected, and understood. Thank you for taking a moment in your grief to let us know what happened. I wish...
It does! Omg waiting is so hard for me. Patience is something I struggle hard with.
My 2 cents on the rooster question you asked. I think they see you as a threat somehow in their little chickeny hormone filled brains. It’s not unlike a broody hen will do. She is stuck to sitting on her eggs...
It was ridiculously HUGE 😂 I think in a few short weeks you will know one way or the other.
Meyers is pretty good about sexing their chicks and you went there and picked them up so no feed store mix-up could have happened. I am sticking with she is a she for now ;)
I do have rooster thoughts...
@RoyalChick This was my BCM’s @ about 7 weeks or so. Brownie had a really prominent comb, they both had combs
at about 3 weeks. His kept growing and getting darker red while hers remained where you see it in this picture until she matured. Contrasting greatly with the other pullets of other...
The Dot Dash Crew this evening - I was ridiculously happy to find that they are all now roosting next to Pebble and Nyx. They all crowd around Pebble, it’s hilarious because he clearly doesn’t want them there but they absolutely refuse to be anywhere else. Whats a Roo to do?
