We raise our (kids') pet chickens/ducks with the meat/egg chickens/ducks. Is there a reason you separate? Our decision was based on not wanting to bother, but maybe we should. I always joke that my husband will be person non grata at the chicken coop if he keeps walking out with some and not...
She looks nothing like barred rock now. Also, the original barred rock we thought we got looks more like an Australorp. One day, I'll sit down and figure out what happened there.
I'm a mix of both, I think.
I raise my birds for eating, and homeschool education. My husband will eat the misbehavers, and extra roos if they make it that long, or when he gets tired of them, we offer them to people at work. The kids and I eat the eggs, but not the actual animal. This...
Our Australorp has a yellow spot on her head. The grey legs made me think Barred Rock pullet, but even my BR have a yellow dot.... Soooooo....
I'm new to chickens, but after I picked up a sick chick from TSC, the manager gives them to me every time I'm in there now, and we've turned into sort...
Yes to the names. I have ducks named after the Justice League.
Starfire looks like any of the Reds I have: Production, Rhode Island, New Hampshire. My current New Hampshire rehabilitations have white and grey wings when spread, but they're not quite that red, yet. (Just acquired them)
It's always so loud here between the kids/dogs/poultry that I can't honestly tell you if I've heard Diana quack, yet. Pretty sure I have as I'm almost positive they've all done the duckling quack on their way being separated for the 30 seconds it takes to get them into the bathtub. I'll double...
Darkwing (the potential Runner) has grown some impressive chest hair, as we like to call it. Ready dark feather shafts have popped up over the last few days. We thought s/he had rolled in poop at first glance, before we gave her a bath and it didn't go away. Lol
The other is mostly brown when...
Unfortunately, lab breeds are bred for birding. Just like my Daschund attacks our hamster, my lab would love to catch our chickens. They're easy to train, though, so you may be able to break him of it. I currently have my chocolate lab on strict "just smell" supervised visits.
My husband and I both have a tendency to bring home animals that need homes. We either rehabilitate them, or re-home them when possible. Cats, dogs, rodents.... Doesn't matter. Our youngest daughter already has a master plan to use it to get guinea pigs or rabbits someday soon.
Funny...
Do chicken diseases pass to ducks? My ducks are perfect baby carers.we always throw the picked on chicks in with them.
However, I love my duckies and don't want them getting sick
She isn't my only chick. My others are over 2 weeks old, though. Dont want them all getting sick, though, obviously. Bought a bin at Target to keep her in.
