Better photos. They don't seem old enough to vent sex yet although they should all range 6 to 8 weeks. I know there are roosters in this batch but no crowing yet. All the other ones were easy to feather sex and the roosters don't have foam yet so maybe I'm off on the age. (edit- #4 is the oldest...
i cannot for the life of me figure out these quails gender, everyone feather sexed out easy. any tips figuring these guys out? im thinking both males but there is markings lightly on the chests all the other males were very clean on the chest.
update: apparently they can fly very well so they should be fine, must have been outcrossed with wild ones. also apparently there's lots there. might just be a different species of wild duck or i dont know. its really weird.
for sure, my ducks are purebred too so i dont want them crossing anyways. probably toss them in the barn (good distance away) and rehome them. just dont want them to die when winter hits
my main concern is it gets to be -40s here during winter, if they are domestic they wouldnt be able to migrate but if they are wild then i dont want to be stealing them.
came right up to my friends, very remote lake. if they are domestic ill get them but dont want to be stealing wild ducks. just look domestic to me but not 100% sure.
she is good, ended up eating the next day and has been good since, still tries to eat EVERYTHING but at least now its only able to eat what i want it too.
okay, i just put the chicken chick in and it tought the other one to eat but maybe it will teach this one too. HOW DO THEY SURVIVE IN THE WILD!!! i sat there forever trying every trick i know trying to teach it to be a bird and eat. i swear she will be the death of me lol
i swear to god this thing is going to be the death of me, got a pair heritage ridley bronze poults and i brought them home, the younger one ( about 12 hours old) took a second and figured out what to eat. the other one (about 1 or 2 days old) started eating wood shavings, after awhile of trying...
im glad i put him out of his misery, he had an enlarged heart with alot of fluid accumulated, his intestinal system was very full of gas like a balloon so it filled up the body cavity and had damages due to this, (i opened him up immediately after euthanizing him so it wasnt post mortem and he...
so its looking like he has some pretty serious medical issues coupled with so much coccidia in his feces (if you can even call it that, its just coccidia really) im going to put him down and do an autopsy. he can barely walk, i told the original owners and they said he was healthy but eventually...
im struggling to find much information on ridley inbreeding, would you mind sending me a link? i would really like to know more about it as i was planning on breeding ridley turkeys (seperate pen) and its good to know.
intersesting, i was really wondering about the snood since mine have never lost thiers, i never heard about ridley indreeding before. i have to go look it up now.
like i said they are nowhere near purebred, 2 hens are broad breasted bronze (meat birds) and the white one is supposedly a heritage although looks like it might be a meat bird cross. the tom is a mix so i doubt he was inbred and at three years old i dont think he is just late developing. he...
Just got some turkeys from my neighbour's. She said 3 hens and a Tom but the Tom is really odd so I am hoping maybe someone knows what's up. He is about 3 years old, ridley heritage x. He walks very upright never puffed up, drums, gobbles or shows any interest in ladies. He is smaller than any...
okay it is testies lol, i am a living panic attack and worry about everything, its odd that ive never seen them before doing up roosters but i allways butcher around first crow and these guys been crowing for a few months, thank you so much for putting my worries at ease!
Free range and layer pellet. Still got a foot of snow so all layer all winter.
Edit. There appeared to not be any kidney I could find underneath although i didn't look super well. Maybe it was as I have never butchered roosters that old
