I have a quaker. He is great. One thing I would suggest is to make sure they are legal to own where you live. There are a few states, like CA that have banned them due to people turning them loose, or escaping their cages.
When i was in 4h I bred twice year. But now that I show I get 2-4 live litters per year per doe. Kind of like how you do it patty. Its just a lot easier going on the girls.
Could be dry sneezing. sometimes dry sneezers can be carriers of pasteurella. I'd wait it out and see what happens. Cull him if he continues to sneeze or gets worse.
depends on what type of show you are talking about. there are pigeon fancier shows. there there are pigeon poultry shows. the fancy shows break them down into classes and varieties where most of the poultry ones only go by breed. Ive never been to a fancy show, so thats about all I know about...
You can rebreed right away after she loses the litter.
as far as a rebreeding and weaning scedual goes, the best thing to do, and the most responsible IMHO is to rebreed her a couple of weeks after they are weaned (at about 6-8 weeks of age). That gives the doe time to recondition. Otherwise...
Most rabbits are kept outside in cages and they are just as happy as those kept inside in the house. So to say you shouldn't have one if its going to be kept in a cage is incorrect.
As far as pets go, I standard chinchilla rabbits make very good pets. But I think you should go to a rabbit show...
My nephew found a little leopard frog last week. Took to it to school. They kept it as a class project and named it taco bell. He had to take it home today. His mom wouldn't let him keep it. So I took it. Probably will let it go once he loses interest. It will go in its own tank for now. But I...
Its a mutt. Probably an escaped pet. Ask your neighbors if they are missing a rabbit. Rabbits are smart little suckers. They can figure out how to let themselves out of a cage. A lot of them are capable of opening cage doors, and escaping.
Are they show quality and pedigreed? I would say pet rabits without pedigrees $5-$10 each. Show quality $10 and up with pedigrees. You could get more for the babies if the sire and dam are champion show rabbits. Othwerwise if they aren't, I would say $10-$20 for non pet quality.
Cals, newzealands, american chins, palominos, and pretty much anything with compact body type that grows to be about ten pounds.
If you want a small breed, florida whites also make an excellent meat rabbit. they just take an extra month to mature.
My doves have decided to nest without laying eggs....
I went out and bought some pet dishes with the rounded bottoms for them to nest in. Seems to work good for the hungarians. So hopefully it will help solve the problem with the archangels.
They need to get those two separated in their own cages. Because the doe can have a litter every thirty days. She can get pregnent right after she gives birth.
Yeah, don't follow the HRS stuff. Join the ARBA or purchase some of their books. That would be your best source for rabbit...
Bad news abou the angel baby. It was dead this morning. Looks like it may have been accidentally kicked away from the hen when they got in the box with it. Dispointing. but at least the hatching problem seems to be solved. So going to keep trying with them.
My hungarian baby is doing great...
