like I said I have never used this before. Someone else had said that it wouldn’t hurt her even if she didn’t have mites/ lice. And I’ve heard of people using it a couple times a year as a preventative.
I’m not 100% sure if there are insects to kill or not, I don’t see any but from what I can...
So her feathers won’t grow back in the bare spots either?
The roo is extremely aggressive so I haven’t had a chance to check him yet. But he looks completely fine. Like I said my friend got the pair and gave them to me. The guy she got them from had no idea what he was doing and barely touched...
Since I’m getting mixed responses about using the permethrin, should I wait and see if she improves before using it? How long should I wait?
Since the rooster she’s with isn’t being affected could this mean it isn’t mites/lice?
Thanks everyone for the help and advice! I’ll be picking up permethrin tomorrow and using that for a couple weeks. As well as continuing to feed a higher protein food. I’ll make sure to update on what happens.
Thanks again!
Like I said I’ve never dealt with mites, lice, or anything like that so at this point I’ve just been trying to find any info I can. I read that dawn can help get rid of lice. She also has some poop stuck to her feathers (I did double check that it is in fact poop and not any sort of mite or flea...
I just looked again when I brought her in and didn’t see anything.
She is a year to a year and a half so i did think it was possible she was just molting. I’m going to pick up so permethrin tomorrow just as a precaution but im thinking it’s thankfully just molting or the rooster is over...
They are not new no. I would wait a couple weeks anyway for quarantine before putting her with them, but I didnt know if her feathers would be growing back by then. I just want to be 100% sure it’s not mites!
I should know for sure by then if it’s mites right?
I’ve been lucky enough to have...
Thank you so much, I’m really hoping that’s it! So do you think it would be safe for her to be put with my other two indoor hens? I planned on just keeping her indoors with these two girls and separating her from the rooster but didn’t want to risk them getting mites!
I’ve looked at the base of her feathers and don’t see anything moving or built up. I have noticed her back has pretty dry skin. This is where she’s missing most feathers. There’s no flakyness but the skin seems drier than normal. Could that be what’s causing feathers to fall out?
She does have bare feather shafts, yes. She was housed as a pair with the rooster she is with now. He looks completely fine. No missing feathers or anything. I’ll not repeat the DE then and if it is decided that it’s mites I’ll go get her permethrin. Is that something you would get from a vet...
I’ve been checking since I got her and haven’t seen anything. I have her separate from my other seramas just Incase she does have them but like I said I haven’t seen anything on her. She lives with a rooster that came with her and he looks completely fine!
So a friend of mine picked up a pair of seramas from a guy that didn’t want them, and She ended up giving them to me. They are about a year to a year and a half old. The hen is missing a bunch of feathers and at first I thought she was a frazzle (extreem frizzle) but I’m not sure at this point...
I have one serama chick that hatched out the same size as the rest, but she is growing very slowly. At 7.5 weeks she only weighs 3.9 oz! Which is the same as my 5 week olds. In comparison another chick that’s 4 days younger than her weights 5.2 oz. And a chick a week and a half older than her...
