Hazel sat on her eggs under shed, & came out October 14. Now it got unusually warm and Lisa disappeared under shed. She is jealous of Hazel and wants her own bureau of chicks. Now it turned into winter, it is getting below freezing. But Lisa comes out every morning when sun comes up to eat. Then...
Foam started crowing at 10 weeks old. Cornish Rock hatched Feb. 14. I named him that because so young didn't know if was male or female. But when I was not looking him he started eating foam sheeting from the wall.
I was raised on Dr Seuss & would call that my Religion but 5 years of Chickens has only solidified those beliefs.
I was not dreaming or imagining it this morning when Nugget in the middle of jabbering to try getting me out of bed said "Rick".
So I got up opened the window then went to try to...
I think the Bible says something like, They shall be worse in the end than the beginning. But it's like everyone I come in contact with is Possessed! I can't give eggs away, neighbors will not open there door but I can here them inside scurrying around hiding. My Sister took Dad around to his...
...of the back yard they would just keep going. 20 weeks no eggs or interest in rooster. Very small comb & waddles but never saw them panting on 100* 100% days. Get on top coop for fun of flying. Lucky my two 5 year old Reds are still laying every other day.

3 month old Pony who sucked up popcorn like a vacuum got attacked by Raccoon. She can see out of right eye, left still shut from dried blood. It's been 6 days & all I can get in her is a mixture of water, peach juice & honey. She has just lost the will to live.
Took Toby to the Star Barn raising today and he was just the perfect angel as usual. Hanging out where ever I put him down & enjoying all the petting from everyone. Only problem I’ve had with him naturally came while I was in the middle of carving a dowel pin with a draw knife you could have...
My 5 chickens worked there *** off in 95* 95% hum all day to fill in groundhog hole so they wouldn't have to smell the dead hog. The are really intelligent sensible animals.
If money is no problem a good Sawyer can turn that tree into enough lumber to build a new coop for half what store bought costs.
It's Maine, I know there are real men & a portable mill somewhere close. You see that Lumbermate 2000 with the large log on it in the backround. I could turn that tree...
There CHICKENS not human children! If humans can survive in a nylon tent on Everest chickens with some Vaseline rubbed on there comb will be fine.
If it gets down to -20 put a safe cube heater in the tent.
Chickens have been surviving with no coop for millions of years. All they need is predator security.
Go to Walmart and look for a cheap $50 tent with a floor. Go to Ebay & search Bird Netting & get fast shipping.
I built this Summer Camp and everyone was safe all summer.
My only loss...
