I can sleep now because I know that my chicken coop is secure and I'm going to keep a trap out for the next 21 days catching them one by one. They love these marshmallows.
I can understand why many don't follow the rules. Truthfully, it took some effort to figure out who knew the rules. Once I got to the right people, it's DNR in Georgia, should anyone need to know... I've got three raccoons in three days. Unfortunately, I still have a ways to go. Before the...
When we built the new bigger chicken coop we wanted the nesting boxes to be accessible from the outside so the girls could get the eggs without going into the coop or run. It really seemed like a good idea and it probably still is but I kick myself for not putting a lock on it. Earlier this...
Yes, that was inside of the coop. My daughter uses these chickens for her Ag projects so she keeps records on which hen lays eggs, so we have a camera usually aimed at the nesting boxes. I had moved the camera's aim to keep an eye on the pop door to make sure that they hadn't figured out how...
In Georgia, it is illegal to relocate a raccoon, because they can carry rabies. First, you have to get a Permit for Lethal Control from DNR to trap a raccoon and on that permit you have to describe how you are going to dispatch the animal. Getting the permit was very easy for me. However, the...
Hey Georgians. I've got two Roosters that I've advertised on the free part of this site. Click Here I don't want to derail the thread, so I put the link to the Animals in Need of Rehoming part of the thread.
I've got two roosters. We are a rooster free home. Both roosters are five months old. They are good at crowing and watching the flock. You will need to bring your own container. If you plan to put them in a pot, please do NOT mention that if you see a child present when you pick them up. I...
My brooder buster worked! She spent three days and nights in the dog crate suspended. When I let her out, she did not go straight back into the nesting boxes but instead found a roost. She's now been scratching and walking the run all day. She's on a roost tonight. I've got a camera in...
With the broody chicken out of the coop today, I got four eggs. That tells me that some weren't afraid to go there. There are three nesting boxes but it doesn't matter she wouldn't let the other hens near any of the boxes. I'm going to let her out in the morning, hopefully she'll roost...
That sounds like Sage advice. The standing hasn't been an issue for her. I'll try letting her out tomorrow. She was even going in the nest at night. Biggest problem was that she was pecking any other chicken that would try and get into the nesting boxes.
I encountered my first broody hen. I had to come up with a solution because she was staying in one of the nesting boxes all the time even though there were no eggs. Our eggs roll under a screen to where the chickens can't get to them. Night an day she'd stay in the nesting box. I started...
My coop is 32 square feet, we have sixteen hens. But the chickens don't seem to care how much floor space. It's roosting bars that matter to them. My run is 224 square feet.
One of the best investments that I made when building my coop was the shower board from Home Depot. Under $35 for an 8' X 4' sheet but it make clean up a breeze.
I run scoop shovel over it every two days (we have 16 hens and 2 ducks) putting the manure in my garden area. Then once every two...
Friday evening, I had an unpleasant encounter with one of my neighbors. In the past, I've had issues with their dog coming onto my property. Twice, I've visited with them and they've assured me that they'd keep her on a leash. I was home Friday afternoon, all my windows open when I heard all...
The coop isn't actually built, yet. The coop is going to be half in and half out of the run. The front side which will be all hardware cloth and welded wire, is the eastward side. Also the front wall of our coop is going to have a 7' X 3' window (It's a glass door from a business.) We are...
