Black walnuts seem to be a popular subject. Interesting tidbit about the black walnut world is that there really is only one major player who deals with them "Hammons" they will buy all you can bring to them, they really do not have any competitors that I am aware of.
I am going to try and either lay my figs over and cover them up, or built some kind of protective tent around them this year. They come back every year, but takes most of the year for them to do so.
Black Walnut, good for staining clothes, traps. Shell has a few uses and the nut meat can be eaten raw, cooked, added to brownies, cookies, turned into cooking oil, and a type of liquor.
Been busy with life, teetering between if I will have a job or not. Plan on starting to put the main garden to bed as I am about done with cherry tomatoes for a long while. Did put some mulch down around one of my cherry trees, might as well get them ready for the closing season, also need to...
got another three fruit tree beds cleaned up, didn't get mulch on them, but at least I got the hard work done. The first sod compost pile was dung into and turned out not bad, a little sifting and free dirt.
Weeds seem to grow faster than my vegetables, will need to spend more time in the beds. Deer have once again laid waste to my apple trees. Solar powered electric fence is something I am interested in.
