Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Thank you @bantybabylover I will look into it. I ordered the Blu Kote after I researched it some. It also has a bad taste to the other chickens and turns the red areas a blue-ish color so the pecking hens are less likely to be attracted to it. Her hen apron came in last night and it was a...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Wow, it seems impossible with all those breeds in the mix. But yes, it's fun to imagine!

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Thanks! I am starting to see markings that look similar to the Partridge Rock in those two darker ones. But with mixes, it's got to be so hard to say. How can you really be sure....even as they age?

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Newest pictures. They hatched June 18th so they are @ 3 weeks old now. Here is Twix...the one I believe COULD be a pure Fav. She has the muff/beard and feathered feet with 5 toes. And this is Jujube who has the feathered feet but only 4 toes. And she doesn't have the muff like the one...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Thanks for the info on the sexing. I took newer pictures last night that I will post. The chicks are getting big and have lots of new feathers! Rexie has zero feathers on her back and under her wings. They are really doing a number on her. It's so sad. And the back of her neck as well...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

It's funny you mention how the girls let the Roo know who's boss. My brother has one Faverolle hen with his Fav Rooster and she is totally the boss! This is my Salmon Fav hen, Rexie. ( on the right ) They are a funny breed. Fun to watch, however, my girl has found her spot at the bottom of...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

It's a good thing that my coop only holds 8-10 because I would just keep raising them! This time around my broody started with 10 eggs and by the end ( after some breaking, some not growing) she ended up with the 3. It's a great number for us if they are all girls, but I do realize that is...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Oh they're beautiful! What nice coloring! Are you able to keep them? I can't keep any of mine if they are boys, but luckily my brother is willing to take them. Praying I have at least one lady. My son ( he's 8 ) will be so sad if we can't keep one of them.

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

And I just realized from the above picture, that I neglected to mention that my brother also has a few Partridge Rocks in his flock as well.

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Thank you! That makes sense. It will be really hard to know so soon, I suppose. I will keep updating this thread as they get bigger. I'd love to hear your input along the way. BTW- How old were yours when they started to crow?

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

In the case of the first one to hatch. Here it is just a day old. In all the excitement of the hatch, I didn't notice the feathered feet until I uploaded the picture :) Then searched for it's 5th toe but this one only has 4. So interesting!!

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

Thank you! That's exactly the info I was looking for in regards to the dominant genes. So if the two that have the 5 toes also have a beard/muff, then it's possible they are pure faverolles? They hatched on June 18th. Any idea when I'd see a prominent muff? I will have to get better...

Faverolle rooster, 'egg donor" unknown, chicks have 5 toes and feathered feet

When my White Rock went broody, I grabbed some random eggs from my brothers flock. The only rooster he has is a Salmon Faverolle. His hens are RIR's, Buff Orps and ONE Salmon Faverolle. He tried to give me his faverolles eggs, but he can't be 100% sure they were hers. 21 days later, our first...

Best way to contain broody's chicks?

If she's anything like mine, she will get very distressed. I had to do some adjusting to my ramp and coop when my hen hatched her chicks. They were only a few days old when they very confidently followed momma down the ramp. I'm amazed at how they hold their own and get around!

    Loner

I have a Faverolle that acts similar. She used to sit and stare at the wall for what felt like forever when she was a chick. So we are used to her weird behavior. Only problem is that now she is at the bottom of the pecking order and is always getting picked on.
