Hello all,
I am on my first batch of Cornish X ever. Great to hear all of your info and experiences.
I have 25 Cornish X in my brooder. They are hanging out with 5 natural hatch Bourbon Red turkeys. The turkeys were hatched to a first time Momma. I had issues with my tom attacking...
I have been on the hunt for a new shed. Everything I find thats a reasonable price are those resin plastic sheds. I don't live in cold but heat. Do you think if properly ventilated one would work for me? Perhaps with a run attached that would always be accessible?
thanks for your opinions!
I have done the same thing before. I brought in 6 eggs from my SIL house. Numbered them with a marker and let the girls do their thing. I don't think they were all fertile. Only one hatched but it was such a thrill.
Wow, I allways heard the stories about chicken wire being ripped through. But I have never seen the pics. that is scary. I have allways used hardware cloth. More expensive in the get go but worth it.
I Just skimmed the article but couldn't one get around this with some type of disclaimer.
"Not recommended for use on children under 12"
Or "not tested use at your own risk"
I can't imagine this ever hapening or being enforced. What a sad world we live in. They should probably add to that...
That's kinda funny about confusing your cat for a chicken!!! I could always use the excuse that I was not wearing my glasses. lol
You know I live in So. Cal. We have a million hawks in the area. I free range my hens and the hawks have never gone after them. I did have a few turkey vultures...
You know there may me more to it.....
I have a friend who's in laws had chickens growing up. Their story is they worked very hard for very long, to rise above the whole raising your own food thing. They are proud of NOT having to raise hens any longer. So her in laws did not understand why...
Do you live in Olivenhain? I am up in Vista. I think you may want to enclose part of that upper area for warmth.
Look great though. I have one of those in my yard. Maybe it will have a new purpose.
This is a great thread. Can I as a question. How often do you need to breed a Doe in order to "Freshen" her milk supply? I hadn't taken that into consideration. I was planning a doe and weather. That kinda leaves me wondering what I should do. thanks
I think the real question is, Do you want to have eggs to share with others? If not go for the 6 to 9 hens. If you do intend to share and have the room go for a dozen. That's how it all begins. Then you will pick up 6 more, then someone will give you 3 and holly cow, watch out your a chicken...
I use the regular little mouse traps that snap. The newer ones are supposed to be bait-less but I still smear the tiniest bit of cheese in the holes. The other day I opened my dish towel drawer and one jumped out. Bounced right past my 3 year old and went under the dishwasher. My kitten has...
