I have a little black banty hen..and by little I mean fits in the palm of your hand little..I'd be seriously surprised if she weighed 2 lbs.. but she will come across the yard at a full run and fly straight at your face..if you didn't know what she was up to, you would think that you're about to...
So would this same hold true if using a Norwegian Jaerhon roo over a solid hen? That's the way I understood it, but I have 2 NJ roo chicks and no hens so was trying to come up with a productive way to use the boys if I don't get my hands on some NJ girls. I love the breed and want to keep them...
Sounds like your Delaware has figured out how to get attention ;) lol..I wouldn't worry too much about that..as long as she's not getting picked on really bad or anything, it's probably just to get attention (they really are like kids)..
As for the runny poos. .do you add ACV to their water or...
I hope this hasn't been covered, I'm only about 5 pages in on the thread in reading..but I am thinking the answer to my question is 'no'..but is there any breed of hen that I can put a Norwegian Jaerhon roo over and get sex linked chicks?
If it's really due to a head peck, there's not a lot you can do..I have a Silkie thst had it, she's a little over 2 months and has been treated since day 1 with vitamins and they all have a great diet, free range time (almost 12 hours a day) but she still lays her head back when she eats or...
I am the same way ♡ My babies are my babies, regardless of it they have feathers, fur or skin ♡
I ship and buy eggs, and have an order placed with a hatchery but even the hatchery order has me scared to death..I did order all straight runs and a few roos just bc I hate what they do to the...
My daughter's friend loves my oldest chick..the younger babies are only a little over a week but my oldest is going on 2 months..it's in between the anvil and Mohawk stage..I'm still torn on its sex. .looks like a roo except for absolutely no red in the face.. she calls them 'the afro chickens'...
I just read a post earlier about a lady with a hen that laid and crows. .lol..so anything is possible ..but some pictures of her head from the top and sides and then a full body shot from the side and top (focusing on the area where saddle feathers woukd be)..if she's 2 tho, I would think her...
Are you referring to the circle? I'd say it was either a door or a poo door..entirely up to you on whether it stays or goes..would make a good pop door though
In addition to what lazy gardener suggested (love that name btw, sums me up perfectly) but you can also scramble some eggs up for them too. I mix up some NutriDrench and Sav-a-Chick in warm water, soak a qtip in it and let the chicks lick it off ..I usually drip some on the tip of their beak...
They will play games with you when the time is close..they practice fake eggs songs randomly for what seems like forever before they actually lay an egg..just be prepared for their tricks.. lol
And you're sure that 'she' is indeed a she? And no chance that she is hiding when she lays? Mine took a while to lay, as long if not longer than my Silkies..I'm going to say they were between 15 and 18 months?
But the being tired and lethargic along with not laying may be symptoms of some...
I remember that wait..every day, running out to the coop thinking..'this is the day..'
Now I hatch babies that should start laying as the others are going into molt or winter vacation..I use the word should lightly because it often backfires..lol..they definitely don't care about our plans or...
They'll be okay, I'm sure.. you can start giving them dirt and grass out of the yard. If you're not comfortable giving them a whole clump you can give regular chick grit and cut the grass up with scissors for them..my youngest chicks seem to like it cut up.
I also read somewhere a while back to...
I love watching them run out of the coop first thing in the morning..my older babies have finally graduated to a big coop with attached run and today was the 1st day they really 'ran' out..they were stopping at the porch and kinda checking everything out first and then it would be a slow trickle...
And yes, it was..it's 'friend' was about 6 inches longer and it had showed up a couple days later..they were both released WAY up on the hill in the same general area..they never made it back down near the house that I ever saw..but that was years ago..they're probably dead now. .not sure how...
