I just found this thread- yes, my daughter and I are both showing tomorrow. This is a first for both of us :-)
I am in the open show with a young pair of golden phoenix, and my daughter is in the junior show with a young pair of silver phoenix.
We just got back from getting them cooped in and it...
Thanks so much @theeggbasket ! They didn't specify an age minimum, but ours should be a little over 4 months old by the show date. We have a couple other breeds that we may show, but my daughter is pretty set on showing her phoenix- just for the fun of it :-) She's wanting to do both open class...
Question for exhibitioners!
My chicks were hatched 6/30, and they are awesome :-) My daughter and I are planning on showing a few of them here in the future- she is going to join 4H for the 2015 fair, but we were looking at maybe entering a show sooner. There is one in November that really has...
My phoenix got their first trip outside in the yard yesterday :-) They're all doing really well. I was expecting them all to be golden duckwings, which is what I ordered- but as their feathers are coming in, I can't help but think that maybe I was sent the assortment. Some look silver, some look...
My first time experience ordering from Cackle has gone great. I ordered 15 golden duckwing phoenix chicks from them, and they sent one extra. I didn't lose a single one and they are all very healthy, active chicks. I did have to order these weeks in advance, but I had no problems communicating...
Oh yeah, I've read about your downsizing. Congratulations on your graduation! Have you found out if you'll be able to keep any of them at the school when you leave? If distance and space weren't an issue, I would take some off your hands :-)
Yeah! They made it!!! I also got an extra, so I am now the proud keeper of 16 golden duckwing phoenix!!! All of them were very active and vocal when I brought them home, and they're settling in great so far. They're eating and drinking and all seem healthy :-)
Great pictures OR4-Hmom, thanks for sharing- and thanks for everyone that's shared their feeding tips as well! I should be able to bring my phoenix chicks home tomorrow, and I'm so excited :-) I'll be taking/posting pics as soon as they're settled in. The chick starter I have for them is 24%...
Thanks for the percentages! My only local feed store doesn't give many choices on game bird feed, basically just the poultry conditioner that you mix into their feed. At least now I have an idea of what percentage of protein I need to aim for :-)
I was looking around the net for information on this subject and came across a really good article about fermenting feed ( I actually found it on another BYC thread). Thought it was a pretty good read http://tikktok.wordpress.com/category/chicken-info/
Thanks for info- how many chickens are you able to feed with one jar? If you let yours ferment for 3 days, it makes me wonder if fermenting overnight is really adequate enough. I'm going to give the fermentation thing a whirl, but if all else fails I may just supplement with some poultry...
