i know what you mean...i beat myself up over things that i say to people sometimes...like every word i utter is the wrong one. in my family we call that feeling, coupled with the blahs "the ruiner" as in 'I am the ruiner...i ruin everything.' dont feel bad. no offense to the chirpy people out...
i would be far more concerned about the cat (they DO lick themselves clean) and the dog (she eats the dead things, and her own poo) than the chickens. my two small children handle the girls all the time (even my baby pets them on occasion) and they have not yet contracted the dreaded 'chicken...
i am a domestic goddess and queen of all i survey (as long as no one else is surveying right then) I stay at home with kids, 6, 4, and 9mos, 1 cattle dog, 1 cat, 3 fish, and currently 16 chickens (will go down to 6 when i take the meaty ones to the whack and pack.) I used to do something else...
i guess im not sure why the article is calling it a 'loophole'....many cities (even big ones) allow chickens...its a hold over from the days when EVERYONE had a little flock to help sustain their families. glad my neighbors are far far away. i strongly dislike dufuses (or would it be dufi?)
i guess it depends on where you are...i found great inexpensive activites at a camp nearby me, and other than that, we think of strange things to do...make rootbeer (easier than you think) , gather flowers to press, do random crafts (crayola.com is cool) check on the chickens is a popular one...
va - ca - tion?????what is this word ? i am not familiar. the last time DH had time off, we rented a backhoe and a drywall sander and worked like dogs! besides, the domestic goddess NEVER has time off (unless you count grocery shopping!) the last time we were thinking of going anywhere, i...
thanks so much for the suggestions! they are getting pleny of calcium, as far as i can tell...i give them egg shells relatively often, and the shells are nice and firm. i am starting to think that she was on a weird schedule, as the egg dropping seems to have stopped (although one of my hens...
she is laying during the day....i think...she usually lays at 9-ish, and there was no egg when i let them out yesterday, but when my DD went to collect eggs she found it. i will check the shell for thickness.. thanks so much! forget crying over spilt milk....THIS is something to cry about!
Not sure whats going on here...yesterday i found an egg beneath the roosts, and assumed that someone had rolled it there and eaten it, but when i went out this morning, there was another one, and i am positive that one of my girls is laying from the roost! the worst part of this is that its my...
im with you, ivy....the easier, the better. i would just make sure its up off the ground and has a little lip. we mainers would call you 'wicked thrifty', usal!
the recipe i used was pretty much that one (i also have a nog-obsessed husband) but i used captain morgans spiced rum. it cuts the richness with its own spicy goodness, and who couldnt use a little captain????? i also use freshly ground nutmeg for the top. yummers!
yikes on the drought!! But why would i want to? because dh and i have a secret...i will share it with you so you are forewarned...one day we are going to vacation in your fair country and probably not return to our native land. so if a couple of freaks move in near you, it could be us...
we spent about 50 big ones on rough cut lumber, used a piece of scrap roofing to cap it, spent the most on the fence, which we now do not use. but our coop is a sad showing in comparison to some of the chicken hiltons i have seen on this site....you will see NO pictures of my coop...i am too...
I was a carpenter at a theater, a student (for the second time) a stage hand, and I was the technical director at a venue in portland (ran the backstage type stuff) until i realized that i was not living up to my potential, so now i am a full time domestic goddess, aspiring gardener, keeper of...
