That's also what I was thinking. He stands way taller than my entire flock. Granted I don't have a rooster in the flock but still. This guy is still the odd man out so as long as he is cool with me and good to my ladies I don't mind him sticking around.
I purchased this bird at 5 weeks old supposed to be a pullet but looking at her/him he is big. I feel like it might be a roo but I'm in denial so I thought I would get other's feedback. Also wondering if it might not be a pure breed. Thoughts? He or she is 4 months ish...
I have an Easter Egger hen that from the look of her she looks ok but when I pick her up she is literally all feathers and bone. All I can feel is how pointy her sternum is. It worries me. She acts ok now but I took her out of the flock because I thought she was being bullied and now she has her...
I ended up just having to continuously dust them with DE until all of the nits had hatched and were gone. It took about 2 weeks of dusting them once a day. The muff area is hard because its so close to their nostrils. Try not to let them breath it in. You might try mixing a solution of water and...
I have 12 hens and a duck. I had 2 roosters. I noticed 4 of the hens had major feather loss on their back, and wings and some even around the vent and chest area. I thought some of it was due to over mating and some might be due to bullying. I got rid of my roosters and none of the feathers have...
I have a year old Indian runner who chases my chickens around and pulls out their feathers and eats them. They are on higher protein right now to help regrow feathers. I think its the ducks way of getting back at the chickens who pick on her.
Well it turns out my girl was a boy. Good thing we named him a gender neutral name "Lucky". He still isn't fully matured so he isn't being a handful yet. I hope I can keep him but I heard another one crow today so 2 boys could be no bueno for my flock of 15.
I have a cockeral who looks to be a leg horn mix who literally spend every waking moment eating it seems. Every time I go out to the run he is at the food bowl sometimes even laying at it and still eating. Is he just super lazy? He isn't fully matured yet and has yet to crow or mount a lady. I'm...
One of my Easter eggers has lice just in her beard and high neck region. I immediately ran for my DE. Good to know about the 7 day repeat rule. I'll throw more down in the run for them to dust bathe in. Catching these ladies is sometimes like pulling teeth.
Have you tried diatomaceous earth? If you put it in their food and water its a dewormer and all around good maintenance. You can also put it on the ground for them to take dust baths in ECT. It gets rid of pests. You can find it at tractor supply and other places like that!
I got this adorable indian runner duck. He/she thinks it's a chicken. It has been with chicks since hatching. Can anyone give me an idea of what it might look like as an adult? Just curious.
I had a question and was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out the answer. I bought 6 new chicks from Tractor Supply. They are Yellow-Sex Linked Pullets. I was just trying to figure out what breeds these come from. I know they aren't pure bread but when I looked up Yellow-Sex Link...
I do travel to Fort Worth on occasion so if he doesn't go on craigslist I will really consider it. I'm not prepared to kill him so I need to find someone.
I have this 6 month old Brahma/Cochin Cockeral that needs a new home. He was very slow to mature but now at 6 months he is taking his liberty with my ladies and so is my other rooster. The gang bang the poor ladies, They have stopped egg production because of this too I'm pretty sure. Some of...
I have a coop here in West Texas (Lubbock) and it seems I have at least one huge mouse (but I think it's a rat) and this evening when I went to pick up the feed and put it on the counter inside the half of the coop meant for storage I saw a little mouse shimying down the chicken wire headed...
My 2 Brahma hens just started to lay. I was wondering what their laying habits are like during the winter. Are they a no lay when it's cold type bird or what? Also on a normal basis what are their laying habits. Daily?
