    Do a search for deep litter here. I use pine shavings, leaves, and hay in my coop. I sometimes add some mulch. I then rake it out to the coop after about 6 months. I don't purchase my mulch, but I get it free from tree trimming services.

    I also use an old tire. Drilled holes in the bottom and filled it with sand and ash from the fire pit. We need to add to it somewhat regularly, but they have also dug down. It is a good place for them. It is on the sunny side of the run and not on the low point.

    I think fermented feed has a strong smell. I hate the smell, but I have a super sniffer, so I am much more sensitive to it. To me, it smells like it should, fermented feed. I ferment in the garage. I love feeding fermented food for all the reasons listed previously.

    If you presented more than one complaint, they may have only heard the rooster complaint and not even heard the complaint about the coop. It is likely not disrespect at all. Most chicken owners want to be good neighbors and will go above and beyond to make sure they are good neighbors.
