So Alaskan, what was the temperature today? It was real nice here in Ne. It was a little cool but not bad. Usually on Easter it's cold or rainy or both but today was an unusual day. I didn't do family celebration, I stayed home and helped work on my chicken coop. Making it real nice for my girls...
Ravynfallen, ,thanks for the info. I figured they were EE's. Just wanted someone to clarify. I knew the roos color wasn't right and I'm actually excited to see what he will look when he's older. I had another rooster I gave up to my grandkids and he has gotten just beautiful for a mutt. It's so...
Alaskan you seem to know alot about chickens. Maybe you can look at some of the pics i posted and tell me what you think. I'd love to get some input. These are my two favorites. I call him Pretty Boy and the next one Rambo. I'm hoping Rambo is a pullet. She is such a sweet bird. She comes up and...
I have a rooster that is an Ameraucana mix. Can anyone tell me what they think this roo is for sure. When the owner of chickens was at my place he said the roo was totally ameraucana. Tell me if you think this is true. I have blue chicks and they have the characteristics of A's like the whiskers...
CandJFarm, Just from my own experience with my flock, I don't think the rooster makes them lay any sooner. I had a roo that was 5 months old and going after the girls and mine didn't lay until they were 7 months old. That's just with mine though. Sounds like a good Google question.
This is Big Mama showing the chicks how to take a dust bath. In the next one a chick was on mama's back doing her preening for her. She was just pecking away on her. Pretty cute!
This is my broody Big Mama with her chicks out of the coop for the first time. The first picture is of her and a couple of the chicks almost two weeks old and already jumping up on tree stumps.
She has been a real good mama to her babies and it's so much fun watching her interact with them...
Paul Raye, I went back and looked at pictures of my EE's when they were newborn and you can see their little furry cheeks. Here is a picture of one of them. He is a very colorful guy now and I just love him.
Paul I have EE's that are 11 weeks old and I think they were real young when I noticed the whiskers. I'm thinking a couple of weeks old. I will go back in my pictures and look but I'm sure it was very early. I have pictures in my profile of them. They're blue.
What breed is RSL, sorry I'm not up on all the breeds. I hope that's true about breeding ee's and brown egg layers because I'm going to get a collar for my EE roo and let him do his thing. Most of mine are brown egg layers. I guess I better get busy and quit talking about it.
W2teals, I must be lucky, I have an EE that has gone broody two times in the last year. She is a great mother. Her babies are almost 4 weeks old and she takes just as good care of them now as at first. I have incubated 3 times and only had babies hatched by a broody once and wow what a...
Flockofbantams
I saw the picture of the flock and then Bella. What a beautiful bunch! Bella is real cute. Is your Barred Rock a EE too. I have a B.R. that is a mix with an Ameraucana and she looks all B.R. except she has whiskers and ear tufts. She's real pretty. I also have some blue EE's. Love...
It is such a gorgeous little bird, probably a cockerel. I agree about the wattles. That's usually a good sign of a cockerel. It has been in my case anyway.
Is this a splash?
She looks like the 9 month old that I think Clucksworth posted. I guess I am wondering what is the difference between a BLRW and a splash.
