Hi, I'm sure you guys get this question all the time and I've read several of the threads already. I believe my silkies to be non-vaulted but was hoping to get validation from you guys. They have nice size top knots now that they are about 2 months old, but as chicks they looked like any other...
You're so right. I have them in a very large tote, the bulb is on one end and the other end is cool. It helps that they're in a cool part of the house. They look great! They're not huddled together but not panting with wings out. They just kinda lay where ever they wanna.
I love my chickies!!!

Thanks for all the responses. The bulb I bought was 250 watt, but it doesn't seem very warm at all. I have it hanging about 2 foot above the chicks and I put my hand down there and it just doesn't seem warm enough at all! A 60 watt trouble light puts out more heat! So I didn't know if it had to...

One day while feeding my flock, my roo Lacy (yes, Lacy IS a boy) kept crowing and crowing and crowing. Everytime I turned around he'd cock-a-doodle-doooooo. Normally I don't mind but he just kept on and on...cock-a-doodle-dooooooo And he'd really drag out the doooooooo. I was starting to get a...
I've got 3 ducks in with my flock of chickens. The ducks make a MESS of the water. How do I not only keep my water thawed in the winter, but keep it IN the waterer?
My problem is the ducks! I don't know how to have a waterer in the coop without the ducks making a complete mess!!!
I've got 23 chickens and 3 ducks. Any other chicken/water fowl people have ideas?
I know they pant to cool off. I guess what my problem is this, we feel heat index because we sweat. When the heat index is high there's a lot of moisture in the air making it harder for our sweat to evaporate, making it harder for us to cool down. If chickens don't sweat, they shouldn't be...
