Hello! These chicks are about 9-10 weeks old. I’m not sure what kind they are but I’m curious if anyone has ideas on gender. The two in question are the ones front and center (the calico looking one and the black/white/grey one).
Thank you!
Thank you both for your replies. I would like to keep her, she’s a sweet girl. I’m going to keep an eye on things and hopefully soon she’ll integrate with the rest of the flock.
Yesterday, I had two grey foxes attack my chickens while they were loose. I had 4- 9 week old pullets, the foxes got two and the third is missing. One pullet survived. I also have 4- 3 year old hens. The hens have been picking on the lone pullet. She’s now hanging out by herself all the time...
Aw darn. I was having some feather picking issues when I didn’t have the extra roost in the run, so I’m concerned about removing them. I wonder if I were to remove just the higher level roost if that would help the situation.

Hello! I’m looking for some advice. I have 6 hens, all about 1.5 years old. I live in upstate NY and it has been a cold winter, often reaching negative numbers at night. Almost every night I have to put a few chickens inside the coop at night. How can I get them to all go inside? It’s always a...
Currently no other chickens are laying weird eggs. The only hen I have that lays this color egg would be my speckled Sussex. It could be the Easter egger but at 16 weeks old I think she might be on the young side to lay. Everyone appears healthy, no noted respiratory issues, and normal poop. As...
Good morning! I found this egg and am not sure if I should be concerned. The egg has a hard shell, but I’ve never seen something like this before. All of my chickens are about a year old except a 16 week Easter egger. I’m not sure who laid it. Any ideas what’s going on? My chickens are on layer...
