What breed are they? 2 weeks old

What indicators do you look to in order to know it's a pullet?

What breed are they? 2 weeks old

The comb is very orange. I've never seen this orange of a comb.

What breed are they? 2 weeks old

This Whiting True Blue will be 8 weeks on Saturday. It is my first one. I have two more, but they are 5 weeks younger, and completely different coloring. So really nothing to compare to, and I'm curious if this is a boy. No waddle, but comb is pretty definite. I'm unfamiliar with this breed...

    Gender Determination by Refrigeration

I didn't think you were OT at all. I found the info very fascinating! The eggs in my incubator right now are not from my own flock , but I believe she feeds her birds well. Certainly, I'll keep the good nutrition theory in mind when I incubate the eggs from my own birds!

I am not trying to "kill" the cockerels, so much as avoiding it from beginning, as I do not like knowing birds are culled.

Exactly what I said in my original post about hatcheries. As I mentored above also, I did turn my incubator up to recommended temp. Thanks so much for your info. Super interesting about the store bought eggs, too.

Quite interesting about the Trader Joe's eggs. What kind of chickens were they? Is your prediction due to the fact that they were refrigerated? Or that I was considering incubating one degree lower? BOO!

Yes, my new incubator is a Brinsea Ovation 28.

I did not know that about lower temps resulting in issues. I thought just later hatch date. Thanks for mentioning. I'm going to look into that, and maybe turn mine back up to 99.5.

That is my suspicion as well, or it seems hatcheries and other financially invested folks would have succeeded in predominantly girl hatches by now.

...for a week exactly, and set today at 12:20pm, so should know by next Tuesday if any took. I'm not good about culling and I feel terrible when I sell a roo for likely Freezer Camp. Would be so much better if I could just get mostly girls. LOL - - *Tale as old as #FirstWorldProblems, right ?!
