I hatched an aylesbury a couple weeks back with the exact same issue, gave it an iodine dip and some drench to perk it up but it died to few days later after looking fine before I went to bed. I have had a couple others survive this, however.
I have an odd chick I'd like to ask about. It has chipmunk stripes and isn't dark on the beak and feets like the others. Does this mean it carries silver?
I decided to stick with silkies because of both their appealing nature and personality. It also doesn't hurt that they are in high demand, so there's never far to look for a buyer. They do seem exceptionally bad at staying alive once they're in between the protected baby stage and the 'wise'...
What temperature are they used to and how feathered are they? I'd probably go for it, but I don't turn the heat/ac on unless I have to so I tend to turn the light on at night until they're comfortable with the change.
The long story being that my second heat lamp went out and I couldn't get to the store any time soon to buy a replacement. Desperate for something to keep them warm, I spied my adjustable temperature dehydrator and put it to work sitting over top of the bin on wire. To my amazement, the bin full...
I made an area in the coop with a hole just large enough for a smaller chicken or babies can squeeze through. It's made of regular wire so they can still see what's going on and if it's going to get too chilly I can put a heat lamp over top of them.
It's most useful for those randomly...
I've kept mine in a 4'x2' rabbit cage all of their existence, save for the first week and a half because of their tiny feet. I'd say that as long as they don't fall through or get out between the bars, they're fine. You will be butchering them before they get into crazy murder mode, so you could...
Actually, the jumbos I raised with chickens are also really mellow. They can't physically touch one another now, but some of the quails make a much more chicken-y sound as compared to the other quails I've had.
