Thank you. I’m just about to toss it as today is hatch day and I can’t see any movement other than some definite liquid was moving around. Should I wait a little longer?
I just had my incubator roll and smoosh one pretty badly, day 17-18. I can’t tell if the membrane is in tact but I’m guessing not since one of the fractures has a bit of goo leaking out. Do you think it’s possible to save?
Thank you! Yes, I changed the splint today to add some gauze on her skin before the sticks. Maybe in a few days I’ll try the sling. Still feels pretty loose today.
We found our sweet little buff Orpington in the coop just laying down. She’s not a layer yet, but more than a few months old. Upon investigation her leg was just dangling. She doesn’t move it, it’s totally limp. She’s also pretty calm about it which is odd. I felt around the leg and it feels...
Do you know what’s terrible? I have some of those right now in the brooder, a little older!! Thought they were less yellow when I got them though. But anything is possible I guess!!
Got this little cutie in a bantam mix from Tractor Supply. Guessing it’s a bantam Cochin, but the color has me wondering what it will be? I was thinking buff or white, but the little booty has some gray. Any ideas?
Agree! Bastard came up super close to my side gate looking at the goats yesterday and I had to chase it off! Wasn’t too big but awfully brave! I sat outside with a gun for awhile but didn’t see him again.
Hello!
My girls were in full laying swing the last few weeks here in California and a few days ago, one of my leghorns got snatched up by a brave coyote that’s been hanging around (she got over the fence even after having a wing clipped). I went from 18-21 eggs a day to about 7 very suddenly...
Oh! And also, during the day I give her her own little space with a heat pad so she can rest without getting trampled. I hold her sometimes also, because she needs to be hand watered and I figure the TLC can’t hurt .
It’s a large deep bin, with one third dedicated to the heat plate and the other area for play and food and water. There’s about 20 tiny bantams in there right now, and I have another larger brooder I can move some of them to when they get just a little bigger. I really only have them in this one...
Advice? I got a batch of bantams from the hatchery (second batch actually- the first batch had a crazy mortality rate - only 17 out of 40 made it) and they’re about a week old today. One of the little babies will not eat on it’s own. I have been giving her water with electrolytes from a dropper...
My dog has always left feathers everywhere and a bloody mess. Plus he hasn’t done it in a while and has had plenty of chances. These were basically untouched... except for the dead part :(.
So my girls were out free ranging as usual this afternoon. Out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something like a bird flying up and away. Looked gray I think. Upon closer inspection I found one regular sized Dominique and one small black frizzle just dead! The only mark was a tiny hole...
I didn’t see that one, thank you! Looks like I did the best i could, but i don’t think the skin has enough stretch to pull that second layer over. I’ll let her be for a bit so she can rest, and make sure that first later is sealed up, and then maybe try that second layer again.
