    Calling goat owners!

Thanks! I read that you can get Corid and add it to the water, I just want to be sure that each animal is getting the required intake; figured it would be easier with food. I don't think the TSC's in Canada carry medicated goat feed but I will call and double-check!

    Calling goat owners!

Anyone in Ontario, Canada (GTA) raising goats and feeding a medicated feed? Looking for a feed that contains a coccidiostat for my goats for the next month as we’ve had a couple of young ones come down with and want to give some proactive protection to the others. Any advice/suggestions would...

    Identifying Legbar Chicks!

I can ask. I’ve never tried shipped eggs; up here the shipping costs more than the eggs are worth, and you never know what you’re going to get! I’ll ask her though

    My old itchy Saanen doe!

Just got off the phone with my feed store - because of everything going on with this stupid virus they are only taking phone orders; it's hard to shop sometimes without browsing in the store! Anyway, they don't carry BluKote and not even the blue antiseptic spray I used to buy for minor horse...

    My old itchy Saanen doe!

Thanks RiverOtter! We just had a very nice warm spell for April here (Ontario) but it has ended and we're back to temperatures just above freezing for a bit. I will definitely try the bath when it gets warm! I did give her ivermectin injectible when I was worried about lice - would that take...

    Identifying Legbar Chicks!

Hi there! I get my eggs from Erin Dawson in Campbellville, Ontario (Canada). If that's anywhere near you let me know and I'll send you her email address!

    My old itchy Saanen doe!

Thanks Cassie, as always! I had her tested for Johnne’s and CAE about a month ago and she was negative for both, thankfully. I will check her eyelids tomorrow for colour. I never thought of fungus! I can definitely get some BluKote and try that. When the vet did the Johnne’s and CAE test she...

    My old itchy Saanen doe!

I have an older (unknown age) Saanen doe who has had dry, itchy skin since I got her about 4 months ago. She’s also on the thin side. She has been dewormed orally and treated topically in case she had lice, though I’ve never seen any. She gets fed nice second cut hay with our other goats and...

    Too late to breed?

So exactly 2 weeks after the big bucks went in with the herd I saw them breeding one of my girls yesterday! I guess I’ll keep an eye on things, but I’m guessing if they helped bring one girl into heat most of any other open girls should come into heat shortly as well. We also had our first kids...

    Too late to breed?

Well I marked the 2 bucks last night. They were pretty sure I was trying to eat them but we got it done. Will see if I have any colourful does in the near future!!

    Too late to breed?

Thanks Cassie! I just had a quick look at the breeding harnesses and they start at around $70 here. Not awful but I think I’ll wait until fall. A friend of mine also suggested using the livestock chalk/marker on the does’ backs and see if it gets all messed up (ie because they were mounted)...

    Too late to breed?

Hey guys! So I recently posted about my young dappled Boer buck and his (possibly) underdeveloped man-bits! 😂 He is doing great and growing well; I’m guessing I was given the wrong information about how old he actually is. Anyhoo...I have several does that I was hoping he’d breed this fall and...

    Wondering about my buckling...

I know, I was just crossing my fingers hoping he’d get in some breedings before it got warm 😝 And beat you to it! I was worried that maybe someone tried to band him or something and it didn’t work. I’ve palpated and turned him right upside down! 😂 The testicles feel firm and “normal”, and I...

    Wondering about my buckling...

Thank you so much for the feedback Cassie! I love him to bits and I was getting worried he would be nothing but a pretty pet. But I just need to be more patient. I was really hoping he’d breed a few does this winter but I’m probably rushing things. I’ve had sheep for a few years but this will be...

    Wondering about my buckling...

Hi everyone! So I got this cute little dappled buck in a group of Boer cross meat goats I got in just before Christmas. He was just too cute to sell so I kept him back and was hoping to breed him to a few does. Now I’m questioning his future fertility. I was told he’s a May or June 2019 baby...

    Reading market reports

They did pretty well last week from my limited auction experience - average 40lbs at $3.30 a pound. Sending a smaller group, but slightly heavier kids, tomorrow. Hopefully they do as well or better! Last sale before Christmas so fingers crossed

    Reading market reports

Will do! It’s hard to take them, they’re pretty adorable. But I’m keeping a few girls so not all is lost ☺️

    Reading market reports

Thanks Cassie! I did take the time to call the auction house (not sure why I never thought of that! ‍♀️). Although I think I surprised the receptionist with my 5 million questions, she did answer them. I had the right idea, but she said pounds x 3.0 or 3.45 (works out the same in the end...

    Reading market reports

So I’m about to send my first small group of goats to market and I’m trying to read last week’s market report (Ontario, Canada)...not sure I’m reading it properly! We’re going to OLEX in Kitchener. Last week a couple of the “top producers” are listed like this: 25 kid goats AVG 74lbs @...

    Incubating bantam eggs

No you’re probably right. These eggs are pretty tiny! I’ll see if the feed store has a turner today.
