I'm sad to say that I also don't care for the new BYC, but you can't go home again. I feel like the old BYC was like visiting a backyard coop -- now it feels like a factory farm.
Good luck all.
I wouldl like to invite you to this thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=605260 where you can get advice from the assemblage of Old Timers here on BYC. There is a veritable font of practical, down to earth knowlege and wisdom that flows from there. Come join us!

Bee: This is what I'm interested to find out. We bought 3 red sex link chicks to start this adventure because we knew we only wanted 3 hens and didn't want to play the "congratulations - it's a boy" game, and we were happy when last winter all three gave us a beautiful big egg almost...

And I'm a real life actual Prof. of Critical Theory, so I'm just gonna bide my time till you publish an article on this in The Sociological Review.

Yep, Al. That's exactly the one I was referring to! "Kinda entertaining"? Epic battles...
OK OTs here's a tichy-touchy subject that hasn't been touched upon here except on the periphery, but which has been the subject of lively debate on other threads: Ways to Deal With Human Aggressive Chickens (not to mention chickens that are aggressive to other chickens.) I suspect many, if not...

Somehow, I can't imagine either you or Al putting lipstick on a hen's vent to see if she's still laying. That was one nugget of "wisdom" I picked up here. BLEH!!
ETA: Picked up on BYC; not this thread.

Oh it's completely legit, I'm a paramedic and as long as we aren't on a call we can be on the computer, take naps, watch TV whatever.
Gotcha. Thanks for the work you do. I believe you have to have a heart and a calling for that kind of work.

We have scrap wood from our coop renovation. Never thought about the wire. That's the problem...they seem to bill it out of every feeder we've tried - even the hanging feeder. This is definitely an idea to explore in spring.

That feeder idea sounds great! Would love to see a picture. We have a small coop and the hanging feeder takes up a pretty big area.
Ours is small too, I don't have any pics on my FB page to steal from tonight, and I am at work, so I'll post some when I get home.
Now we know.......
Here's a posit for our venerable OTs:
Under what circumstances, if any, would you artificially provide heat for your chickens? Light? I know both are objects of intense debate. I neither heat nor light my coop, but going into our second year, our chickens have drastically reduced their laying...
