Every time I go out to say hello to the chooks I change my mind about this ones gender. Please help me make up my mind....seems to be the smartest one of the lot :)
I don't freeze them I use waterglass, but from what I understand adding salt or sugar is to prevent the yolk to gel in the freezing process. I prefer waterglass because you can preserve on the shelf.
Oh thanks...I just have a small back yard flock and want to breed bcm for dark eggs, but I want them to look right...It may be a little early to judge the coloring since they keep getting more and more color every day...but I was wondering if others could tell about their body type at 3 months...
My first time raising bcm...I'm finding it hard to pick a favorite, my three boys are 15 weeks.
This guy is the alpha, I like the way he holds his tail...wish he had more feathers on his shanks, but he has a nice weight.
This one I probably wont keep....he was a late bloomer and still hasn't...
Thanks for the offer....an incubator is on my Christmas wish list. I'm hoping my other half will make a non-electric one for me since we have a small solar system running the house that couldn't handle constant draw. I can't wait!
Yeah I don't see a benefit. He is so much smaller than the others I was thinking pullet. He will have to go. Too bad that beetle green is so pretty.
Thanks :)
I have a question. ... these two I assume are roosters. The one on the left looks different from the others. He has no coppering yet like the others, but beautiful beetle green feathers...he also was very late feathering. Could this be a female?
So I am new to all this and I have acquired some lovely 4F OE....Black Copper Marans x Cream legbar. If I were to breed back to CL rather than to BCM...the eggs would get lighter, right? Also would they be autosexed or sexlink?
