It's been a good coop. It could be an excellent coop with a few modifications. I'll be interested to see how the new small Nestera coop does compared to the Solway.
Two hours. Horrid weather. Rain at varying intensities with 40mph wind gusts. More of the same due tomorrow due to a passing storm further North.
We got out; and back in, on and off.
All I think we can say with absolute certainty is people who say SHE always has to have the last word, haven't heard a couple of roosters going at it.
I've lain on my bed in Catalonia trying to sleep a little until the midday heat subsides with doors and windows open, listening to these...
I to have been surprised when I read posts of weeks old cockerels crowing.
The least time I can recall is around four months. Maybe I missed some.
It's interesting how much the personality of both senior rooster and cockerels plays in how the cockerel behaves. Mag for example didn't...
Congratulations to all the new badge holders. I recognize some names in this quarters awards.
Shame on me for completely forgetting to nominate yet again. It's not for lack of deserving members.
I'm impressed that @DuckLady got the technical problem dealt with so quickly.:clap
You may find that they will eat growing greenery but not greenery that's been cut for them. There is something about getting it freshly ripped from the crop one is trying to grow that is far more appealing than the ready meal option.:p
I think most people who keep multiple roosters experience similar to Perris's with Chirk and me with Major and others; it's all okay then it isn't. Sometimes one can see it coming and avert the conflict which usually results in serious injuries. The bickering fights between tribes/groups rarely...
Two hours today. It spat a couple of times but not enough to make anyone wet.
They saw something but I don't know what.
I turned over another plank today. Lots of slaters and bugs.
The people who took on this plot dug a small corner of their plot, planted a few things and then gave...
Yes I know.:) I've had three roosters and a cockerel in one tribe and they didn't fight each other; they fought the other roosters in other tribes instead,
I feel I must point out there is a world of difference between keeping a bunch of juvenile males and cockerels to keeping a bunch of adult roosters.
Keeping a few adult males can be done but in my experience they end up fighting. This can be really distressing for the keeper so it's important...
I would be inclined to kill the fox in such circumstances should that be possible. It's sad when it has to come to this but sometimes it is necessary if one wants to keep chickens. It doesn't matter in many cases whether the chickens are out and about or in a run. Not many runs are secure enough...
Two hours today. It was warm for a bit.
I got the old spare coop emptied of the tools, meds and feed and transferred everything to a storage box I bought. I think I've got legs sorted for the new coop when it arrives. Not entirely sure how I'm going to fit the legs to the coop yet.
Hopefully...
Exercise has a massive impact on the health of a chicken and most other creatures I believe. It does for humans. Most of us don't do enough and the few fitness fanatics I know, do too much.:D
Chickens are class A foragers. Dig here, snatch there, see a spider on the next bush and dive on it...
Two hours. Warmish and apart from a couple of minutes of spitting a few drops of rain, remained dry.
Sylph is showing signs of thinking about going broody. Went back to where she laid today's egg a couple of times, eating noticeably more and making found food chick calls. Her arse needs cleaning...
