I use a heating pad cave for my chicks. I’ve never started them this late in the spring before. The pad is set at one and my 2 1/2 week old chicks are sleeping at night like this. It has been very warm out, do you think it’s ok to transistion them to the outside coop without the heat pad?

I had to bring my poor chicks in because it was too hot for them. They were nervous to leave the enclosed coop area so they just sat in there and panted until I brought them back in to the AC :)

I got a cheap prefab coop at tractor supply to keep my 2 weeks old in. Wind took out my old one a few weeks ago. I’m going to move the 8 chicks out and see how they do. Surely won’t be too cold for them today!

I was given 5 older birds to keep my one survivor of the dog attack company. They are doing well adjusting to their new place. I did wander though if I will have an issue come winter. The new girls were raised in a heated barn. I don’t do any heat. Will they be able to acclimate? My neighbors...

Ugh! My wonderful neighbor called me crying and informed me that their dogs escaped from their house unattended. ( Their 3 year old left the front door open as they went to run errands). Their dogs got into the coop/run and killed 8 out of my 9 girls. She’s my go to person who cares for our...

Please let me know how it goes snowflake! I have decided to give my hen more time. She seemed alert and looked less like she was giving up today. I may try to get a video and see if anyone has any opinions about her actually healing as an option.

Hi there. It’s been a while since I’ve checked in. I have a girl that I believe somehow broke/injured her leg. I don’t see any signs of trauma but she can’t walk or tuck it under her body. I’ve been watching her now the last 3 days and she’s shows no sign of improving. I’m assuming the best...

I was wondering if anyone is raising barnevelder chickens. I wasn’t planning to get any chicks this year, but would love to maybe see if a broody hen would hatch a couple. I don’t have a roo though.

One of mine keeps laying an egg like this. At least the last 4 or 5 times. Should I be doing something?

I snuck out and got a good at my chicken with the rough looking feathers. I didn’t see signs of lice around her vent or at the base of the feathers. I think my others have just been bored and picking at her.

I have a hen who’s feathers are looking pretty rough. I’m not sure if she’s molting, getting picked on or what. She’s not quite a year old and has never been the most friendly one. But she will it let me get close to her at all to catch her. I’ll have to maybe pull her from the roost at night...

Sooo. I’m sure this has been thought of and asked before. I have poop board collectors under the roosts that I fill with shavings. Would it not work to fill those boards with scoopable cat litter instead and scoop them every day?

We typically don’t refrigerate our eggs, but when they are cold at collecting in the winter, is it beat to refrigerate them?

My girls have no interest in snow either. They just peek out the pop door. I’m glad the coop is decent sized

I haven’t posted in a long while. I think the change over discouraged me :) I had my first chicken death yesterday. She was found laying in the nesting box. I was worried it had gotten too cold, but the 10 others are doing just fine. It was acting strange the night before. I had to move it up...
