Best cage for an indoor chicken?

Cruella, our only hen is living inside and giving us an egg a day or two. She's happy in her cage and gets treats all day from my retired hubby. We've been using pine chips and are trying to figure out a way to keep them from getting out on the floor. I know in the old days there were...

    Solved I spy something new!

Yes, unprompted in my case. All our original hens slowly died off, and we got the gift of a Polish Hen. That's when I came back....to see if we should bring her in the house. Not a conspiracy, but just coming back 'home' to where I feel comfortable.

Pecked on Polish Hen, Any Ideas?

We bought a parrot cage and brought her inside because she's the only one and it's in the 20's. She's given us 4 small eggs the last couple weeks. Hubby cleans the cage every 2 days. The dogs love her, and I'm seriously looking into diapers because she just wants to be with her peeps.

Pecked on Polish Hen, Any Ideas?

Well, this might not work for you, but we got our Polish Hen from a neighbor of my sons who had 'normal' hens. They picked on her so bad, but she was such a loving lady that they wanted to find a home for her. Being that we live in the country and used to raise chickens they asked us if we...

    Single Polish Hen

Well she's finally laying eggs. We got 4 in the last couple weeks. All on the small side. It's been a trial taking her cage outside every couple days to clean it, but she's worth it.

She shakes her head a lot and I think her head feathers are getting in her eyes. Any good directions for trimming them?

    Single Polish Hen

Got the cage in earlier this week. She LOVEs it. During the day we put her out for awhile, but it's been really cold (low 30's) and she's trying to come in.

    Single Polish Hen

Yes she will. We don't look at her as a 'chicken'. She looks at us as a friend/pet. I'll let you know when the parrot cage comes in!

    Single Polish Hen

So, my single Polish Hen wants to come into the house so bad that she has almost learned how to come through the doggie doors. The dogs love her. We love her. I'm looking at big bird cages. I mean...what is the difference between her and Parrot's?

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hey fellow Pennsylvanians. I'm in a valley near Pittsburgh. I used to have a few chickens and over time they died out. Me and hubby are in our mid-late 60's and didn't plan on getting any more. But my son's neighbor had a polish hen that was getting picked on by the other 'normal' hens and...
