    Escaping Chickens

    If you clip wings - only clip one on each bird. It puts them off balance - however it may not work. Hopefully nothing caught and made a meal of the missing one. Chances are if the other two stay in the lot, the escapee will return looking for food and company. Good luck. Lynn

    I'm so sorry! It happened to me too! I lost four chickens a couple of weeks ago to something. It/they left my favorite hen dead in the lot with very few wounds. Whatever it was carried off my largest Wyandotte and left only a couple of piles of feathers from her. It ate my two young OEG hens...

    I'm no expert but the first looks like a buff orpington and I couldn't see the saddle or tail feathers to positively identify the gender of any of these birds. The second looks like a dominique roo maybe... The third is a frizzle.

    I allowed my broody silkie hen to hatch some eggs outside in mid-December. She and the four chicks are inside now. I just make a point of cleaning up the cat-sized pile of poo each day and they are doing well so far at two and a half weeks.
