I did good with my April & May hatch as out of 19 chicks I got 14 pullets but with my June hatch it looks to be going quite different. I guess my luck ran out with this June hatch. lol :/
Well it looks like my 10 "5 week old June hatched Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks" may all be cockerel chicks. :/
Hopefully I will get a few more pullet chicks out of my 23 "1 week old July hatched chicks" to go with my 14 pullets from my "April & May hatched chicks" to grow out. :)
I wouldn't think the Dark Brahmas are the cause of the problems you are seeing in your birds and in my opinion if a Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock breeder was going to outcross the Dark Brahmas would be one I would use. :)
I would have to agree with Joe & Fred as one of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock lines has had a recent outcross to the Dark Brahamas and I have not hatched any with Rose/Pea comb or a Columbian pattern males out of this line. There is definitely better SPR birds out there to start with...
I am done hatching for the year and for the most part I am happy with my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock hatches this year. I had four hatches this year "4 chicks in April, 15 chicks in May, 10 chicks in June & 23 chicks in July" for a total of 52 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks to grow out...
A couple pictures of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks, first picture is the 19 chicks out of my April & May hatched chicks. The second is the 10 chicks out of my June hatched chicks. Out of the 41 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock eggs I put in the incubator a couple weeks ago 32 is still...
Hi Fred, the 4 in this picture was all hatched in April. The cockerel was setting down behind the three pullets. The pullet in the foreground was larger at hatch and has continue to pull away from the other two pullets. I really do like the way she look and hope she continues to fill out nicely. :)
Here is a picture of my 15 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks that hatched out in May. :)
Here are few pictures of my 4 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks that hatched out in April. :)
41 more eggs went into the incubator last night so with any luck I will have more Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks to add to my count in 3 weeks. :)
Here is a picture of my 10 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock chicks that hatched today. This is my third SPR hatching this year and with the 19 chicks that hatched out early that are all still doing great this brings my SPR chick total to 29. Tomorrow I will add more eggs to the incubator and in...
Hi Tom, at best my SPR chicks are a light cream with a hint of gray on sides of body with the chestnut down the center of the back. I have only used my lighter pullets "in chick down & feather plumage coloring" that showed no brownish cast in the breeding pens so I think that has helped me to...
3 weeks ago I put 12 eggs in the incubator and 11 developed to day 18. It is now day 21 and I have 10 chicks out of the incubator, I am very happy with that. Going to leave the one egg in till tomorrow after that more eggs will go in. I keep telling myself this is my last hatch for the year but...
A few pictures of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks. Two of these pullets I really like and I will definitely be using them in the breeding pens next Spring. As for the other three pullets if possible I will replaced them with pullets of better type from the chicks that I am growing out this...
