    Is she broody?

So I guess she was practicing for the real thing. She isn't on the nest anymore.

    Is she broody?

I am going into my 2nd year as a chicken owner. I bought my flock of 6 as day old chicks, so a lot of things are still new to me. My ISA Brown has been on the best all of yesterday and today, her feathers are fluffed up and she makes a coo sounds when I touch her. I noticed today when I was...

The 9th Annual BYC Easter Hatchalong!

I will try to join in on the fun. I'm hoping to get a incubator by then, either homemade or store bought. This is a really neat and fun idea!

    Dominiques

Speaking of broodiness. Are they good mothers? I have a few ISA browns and RIR already which are all very friendly especially one ISA brown Hen (Brownie). They all produce pretty well (an egg a day most times) so I’m not too worried about production.

    Dominiques

I just placed an order for 10 Dom pullets. I’ve read up a little about the breed and their tendencies. So my question to Dom owners is are they really as docile/friendly as many say they are? What are your favorite traits in this breed? Thanks.

    Sawdust in coops

I haven’t used sawdust in my coop, but I do use pine shavings. I’ve heard mixed feelings on using sawdust for different reasons. I’m curious to what others have to say.

    Chickens and the flu...

Thank you every one for the well wishes. I am feeling a little relief today, but the rest of the family especially our 4 year old are not showing any signs of letting up yet. However, the chickens are well fed and have plenty of fresh water, tomorrow hopefully I will get some fresh bedding...

    Chickens and the flu...

I was raised the same way. I guess his question rubbed me the wrong way. I felt like he was insuating that I didn’t have the flu.

    Chickens and the flu...

In the last week my family of 5 have come down with the flu.. The only bright side to this is, it is not as bad as what most are talking about, however it is the flu. With that being said, with all of us being sick there hasn't been anyone to depend on to feed/water the chickens except myself...

    What killed my chicken?

Sounds like a raccoon to me.

How do you water your chickens?

I use 2” pipe with watering nipples. I have a 5ft. stack that is outside the coop and a elbow (90) turning into the coop which is then connected to a tee. From both ends of the tee I have 2 1/2 ft of pipe and clean out caps on both ends to drain it when it gets below freezing temps.
