My neighbor has 30 hens, all 4 years old, he is only getting 2-3 eggs a day and is ready to butcher them all!, Any ideas. he's feeding 16% and whole wheat (?) he gets the whole wheat from another neighbor.
I discovered this morning that the incubator got unplugged last night, I am only 7 days into this. should I start over? I keep the house at 63 at night
It's been a long hard winter and I notice especially on one of my hens, that her toenails on one foot are getting remarkably and painfully long. I am sure it's not complicated, just want advice. also my roo's spurs are getting very long. A neighbor advised to go in at night and snip them off. I...
this is also something I haven't done , but I am thinking about doing it, is turn their light off at night, since they are in the house where it is warm, and they are feathered out, I can't just put them in the coop as I have 11 hens and a rooster, so i need to integrate, but we have had maybe...
my black australorp chicks are 4 wks, but outgrowing the brooder..It's still pretty cold here at night 45 degrees, they are pretty much fully feathered..I still think I should wait a couple of more weeks, since it's so dang cold..Snowed here last night. This is the first time I have tried this...
I have been using Blue Kote, like some one mentioned, it doesn't last very long, and the problem has not been solved..if your head hen is not abusing her nest mates to the point of abuse, I wouldn't worry too much..I Had one hen who tried to crow,(which was really funny) and for a very short...
I really can't say,but someone else may know alot more about it..My experience was that they were fine after the pressure was relieved..but it sounds like you didn't hit the spot where you can suction out the fluid. Glad she is better!
I know it's hard to do it the first couple of times, my hens showed no discomfort having the needle penetrate..and they were certainly relieved! Good luck and maybe try this other procedure too!
I'mva in Challis...60 miles south of Salmon..Only 13 hens right now.. I have an Aunt there (by Marraige) She moved there recently, she is a very dear lady, and she loooves it there in Emmet!
if you can find info on Ascites (sp) where the chest, abdomen keeps filling with fluid..I had to take a hyperdermic needle, poke into the fluid and suck it out. This happened to two of my Barred Rocks, a couple of times. They went on with their lives just fine
I'm having a problem with two or three hens, 1 NHR, 1sexlink,and one RIR mounting and abusing the rest of my RIR..I have 3 NHR, 3SL. 7RIR..3 of the RIR have lost all their feathers on their shoulders and very close to drawing blood..i have been free ranging, feeding lots of greens, flock block...
Thanks for the reply! I am feeding 16% layer, they have a fairly big pen and house, I do feel that 13 is too many, but have had more in a smaller pen with no problem.. They do not come out to free range, although I have gotten them to come out into the vegetable garden when it wasn't in...
I just stumbled upon an old school remedy for a way to repel other chickens from pecking and or rough treatment. (I have 13 hens, 1yr old +) but one of the slightly older chickens is mounting three of the younger ones to the point they have raw patches on their shoulders. Unfortunately, they...
