    Neck feathers

I did see one of the cockerels peck at her neck and then her back feathers. Thanks for the info! I also noticed the tops close to the combs on a couple of my hens were bald. I figured that was from the rough cockerels

    Neck feathers

I will try to get better pictures later but I have these two. I suspect the young cockerel in the picture to be a primary suspect he’s been rather rough with the ladies lately.

    Neck feathers

I have noticed my cockerels being rough with my hens. Started seeing feathers missing on the tops of their heads and scabs in their combs from them (presumably from witnessing mating) then I started to notice some of them are missing feathers in odd spots. Their necks the front and sides (I did...

    Juvenile rooster hurting hens

At first my older rooster was chasing them away from the hens. I’m not sure if there were too many hens for him to keep track of (14) or if they simply just got too big for him. He is a smaller game too. But they will avoid him at all cost, so why does he not stop them from hurting the hens ?

    Broody behavior

Okay so I took y’alls advice and lifted her up. She had 2 more eggs under her. So I decided to separate her from the rest of the flock. That did not go so well. I toweled her she remained calm. I then pick her up. Her head came out from under the towel whilst I was moving her eggs. She didn’t...

    Broody behavior

So I’m a little worried about a broody leghorn I have. I have not seen her off her eggs at all. She has been on them for close to a week. I tried to give her some food close by and she must have thought I was a threat and made it clear I wasn’t welcome near here. She’s in the coop with the rest...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My understanding is it’s pretty rare to keep them around long enough to lay without health problems. That’s pretty cool :highfive:

    Hens co-parenting?

Thats actually pretty interesting. Are they taking “shifts” sitting on all the eggs at once or are they dividing them up amongst them ?

    Wet nesting box?

Yeah the roof is metal with tar sealant. It over hangs every side of the coop to allow ventilation without allowing water inside the coop

    Wet nesting box?

it alternates between 2 or 3 boxes. When I go to change out the bedding in them one of the 6 are always damp. The box that usually is damp always has 0-1 egg no more.

    Wet nesting box?

The nesting box that is usually wet isn’t even noticeable wet when I collect the eggs (usually after work towards the end of the day) but if I move around the bedding that’s when I notice that it’s damp.

So I think I got roosters HA

I happen to run across someone selling BO. Orpingtons being my favorite type I jumped on it. It was to my surprise that they both seem to be roosters Lol. Which is okay with me but I think I’m going to have a problem with my game rooster.

    Wet nesting box?

I appreciate the responses, good thing I got some time on my hands coming up looks like I’ll need to be on the look out for an egg eater. Makes sense though as I’ve suspected that only one of my WL wasn’t laying. Could it be possible she is and is eating her own eggs?
