    Our Coop ...

It looks somewhat functional but it depends on your weather and the predators that you have.

Piles of feathers- is it a fox?

I lost over 30 chickens this week to a fox. One night I did not lock the coop well enough and he killed almost everything. Half were left dead in the yard. Some were partially buried all around like in the garden and in the neighbor's yard. I live in a heavily populated suburban area. There...

    Meat Chicks Arrived Yesterday :(

I don't know but Poly-Vis-Ol has helped me in the past with some weak chicks. Others have recommended for meat birds in the first few days. Anyway, if they were shipped, I would expect some losses in the first few days. Good luck.

First butchering White Rock and now Blue Andalusian -pic

Here is a pic of the blue andalusian I just did because it started crowing. Its the same age as the white rock and was butchered 6 days later at just under 10 weeks old. The andalusian was allowed to free range while the rock was penned the whole time. It did not dress out as nice but weighed...

    Homemade waterer problem

Quote: Don't do that. Your water would just continuously drain until empty. You need to make your hole near the lip larger. As long as the edge of the pan is higher than the top of the whole the system will work.

First butchering White Rock and now Blue Andalusian -pic

Quote: Good tip on the trussing. I wouldn't have thought to do that. I guess the mine are right on track with yours. 3 more weeks for another pound I guess. The food has been stand chick grower. Now i'm using 20% protein food. Anyway I have Buff Orp, Wellsummers, RIR, Delawares...

First butchering White Rock and now Blue Andalusian -pic

Yeah, 9 weeks to the day. I was surprised as well. I'll get a weight on it tonight. It might look bigger in the picture than it is. That tomatoe is about the size of a small orange.

First butchering White Rock and now Blue Andalusian -pic

This year I decided to raise some chickens for food. I decided to just keep extra roosters I hatched out for meat. I have about 30 roosters growing. The first batch is 9 weeks old and I decided to try butchering one. I couldn't wait any longer. Anyway, I took one of the white rocks. It...

    Hawk got my call

Its illegal to shoot them in the US as well. Its also illegal to mess with their nests. I know it sucks to lose some fowl to hawks but that's why I raise some extras. If your not willing to lose some to predators then you need to keep them locked up or guard them with a dog. You can't expect...

Cockerels (B Andalusian, Welsumr, Del, RIR, BO,BR, and bantams)$5- $7

I don't believe any of the Welsummers I hatched are hens. I have them all in the rooster pen. They are almost 8 weeks old. As a matter of fact all the birds are 5-8 weeks old. I was off by a week.

Is this a type of hawk?

Quote: They are no threat to your chickens. Just to clarify; Ospreys are not accipiters. When talking about birds, Accipiters are birds of the genus Accipiter which are "true hawks". In the US the only accipiters are the sharp-shinned hawk, the Cooper's hawk, and the Northern Goshawk with the...

    stolen by the post office?

When i picked up my order last Friday from the PO, the end of the box was bent up because they were checking out the chicks. He even told me that one was dying. It didn't bother me. It sounded like it was the first time they've handled chicks. They called me first thing when they received them.
