Your company's insurance agent may not allow the bees on company property. This happened with a friend of mine, had 24 hrs to remove hives once insurance agent discovered bees on property.
...JP
Exactly.
Before I started my bees, I called my homeowners insurance to make sure there...
They are Italians. They spent the winter in California pollinating the almond crops. I just hope the swarm won't end up in the siding of someone's house!
My hive is an 8 frame and I have a deep and medium super for brood chambers. I had added another super, but not in time to prevent the...
I tried luring them into a nuc box, but was unsuccessful. The swarm left this morning sometime between 7:00 and 10:00. I'm bummed.
My new mentor came over and we found several swarm cells and 3 queens. She trapped all of the queens and we watched the bees to see which queen they wanted. We...
I picked up my first bee order (a 4 frame nuc) on April 24 and today (June 23), they SWARMED! I can't believe it! They are about 50 feet up in the top of a tree...no hope of getting them down. Ugh! I didn't think swarming was supposed to happen after only 2 months of beekeeping!
I feel for you. At least you didn't order 6 hens and get 6 roos...that happened to me. Major bummer. I re-homed all of the roos and reordered from a different hatchery. The second time I got my 6 hens. I did notice that the roos were much friendlier and social at a young age than the girls...
That's great! They will be eating A LOT of sugar syrup, so try to keep plenty available. My new hive has grown and I got stung the last time I changed the sugar water. They are getting a bit more defensive as the hive gets bigger. I wear my hood now when I change the syrup!
They need 1:1 sugar syrup since it takes a lot of honey to make the wax (I have heard 7 pound of honey equals 1 pound of wax). The bees will be working diligently to build the wax comb for the brood and honey stores. Keep offering sugar syrup until they no longer take it. Some say that might...
Those are gorgeous....they will have good feather coloring. How old? I think they are girls because my little Mille girl had a little bit of a comb pretty early but it was pale for a long time. Wondering how old yours are?
My order arrived earlier than expected and they called me ahead to let me know. They were sexed correctly. I would expect the possiblity of getting them a few weeks earlier and be prepared just in case. I would order from them again. My chicks came from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio.
Corn snakes are very common snakes to keep as pets. They are very popular for children because they are so gentle. Pet stores sell a lot of them. They eat mice. It would take a HUGE one to eat a chick.
I don't think you need to clip. They won't really go anywhere once they know where home is. I like to keep mine intact in case they need to get away from a preditor. Are you sure you want to clip??
I'm so sorry about your hen. There are many viruses and liver diseases that make chickens ill. There is a virus called Lymphoid Leukosis...symtoms are similar to Marek's. You are doing all you can. Continue to keep her warm and comfortable. Best wishes.
This is good feed. The Flockraiser is great during molting because it has higher protein for feather growth. Our Tractor Supply Store just started carrying this. I had to go out of my way to get it before, but it was worth it.
Watch out...the Favs will be on the bottom of the pecking order and they very well may get picked on if you choose a dominant breed to go with them. The Favs are super super sweet I have heard. I had bad experience with a high maintenance breed and a layed back breed and they didn't mix well...
