They will generally venture within a 3 - 4 acre diameter from the coop when there's greens and bugs to forage for, or a nice secluded place to take a dust bath. More gamy breeds of chickens will go farther, but will always return unless broody!
I'm looking for some pure Black English Orps, preferably from Marc's bloodline, maybe someone else, I'm not very particular as long as they have exceptional type. I'm looking to continue to improve the type and diversity my Spangled flock by breeding back to great Black Orps. If anyone's looking...
Hello, I have a local friend who is looking to re-home four Silkie hens. They are approximately one year old, and lay between 2-3 eggs a day. My friend drives from Rockford, IL to Ohio often and will be able to drop them off if you are, or could correspond, with her along or near this rout...
It's been a while since I've been on, great to be back. Any way, the reason for starting this thread comes on a more downward note.
I had some of the birds that passed recently sent in for a biopsy to see what might have been the culprit. Turns out some died for Infectious Bronchitis, some of...
Oh my god, I completely forgot about keeping you all updated! I have lost no more chicks, and they are all doing fine. They are still on the medication above and I see almost no congestion now. Those doses seemed to have worked well, and I would strongly recommend them to others who are seeing a...
Alright, what I did was go to the feed store and I got Lincomycin 50 and Duramycin 10 on top of the Tylan 200. I wanted to try the less powerful things before stepping up to the Tylan; heard it could damage the flesh of the bird. I used 1/8th of a teaspoon of Lincomycin plus a dash of Duramycin...
I did some looking around at some of my local feed stores and found that they only have Tylan 200. They say it's usually used fr cattle. Would this be something worth considering?
Thanks so much for your help! I'll post updates when the Tylan comes in. None of my local feed/supply stores had it, so I have to wait until it arrives there Wednesday.. Hopefully it won't be too late!
Oh, yea, mine weren't drinking any water when they became weak. We probably have the same thing..
The chicks that I have in there are English lavender, white, and partridge orpingtons, Beilefelders and Partridge Orps. Probably close to a grand worth of birds. I really hope the Tylan does the...
These are some pictures of them right now. They're active and are active normal until they really get it and become weak. That's when they have hours to live.
Didn't vaccinate for newcastle, and no severe symptoms such as that.
I do notice a little nasal congestion in the rest of them, but I'm not sure if it's related. They are inside, and I'm now supplying them with triple filtered drinking water and the cleanest container they can have. I'm...
I have a clutch of about 25 chicks which are about 5 weeks old. Starting about 3 days ago, though, I noticed one of my chicks start to slow down. He passed about 5 hours after I noticed his condition. I also noticed he started drooling a bit.
I have had 2 more go in the past two days now...
I sell juveniles for $100 a bird, regardless the sex. I only sell juveniles, because then you know exactly what you're getting. You know its sex, quality and overall health.
As far as a standard for the breed goes, though, I don't really think there is one out there. The Appenzeller Barthuhner...
