We don't have them here, but I'm going to vote bear because they can literally tear a coop apart. Most of our devastating losses have been to raccoons, but as clever as they are it's usually not too difficult to keep them out. The first time was definitely our fault, we forgot to secure the coop...
I'm also leaning cockerel on the large black mottled. That's an awful lot of color for 12 weeks, given that brahma are slower to mature.
The smallest has female specific partridge coloring so I'm 100% sure pullet for that one.
The third one could go either way. If it's mottled partridge the...
Crock pots are amazing! I have two large ones that we use all the time, especially when everyone will be out of the house all day. It's super convenient for soups and stews. And the ceramic crock can be replaced if it gets cracked (ask me how i know  )
I agree, it looks like an angular limb deformity. I had a chicken with this deformity this spring.
He was smaller than the rest right from the start, kinda scrungly looking even at (probably slightly less than) 1 day old. He always ate just as enthusiastically as the other chicks but didn't...
Porcelain partridge is just gold partridge with (two copies of) the lavender gene. Lavender dilutes both black and red pigment to light grey and pale yellow/gold respectively. This bird is neither lavender nor partridge. He looks like a mixed color (the parents were different colors, maybe...
Agree, definitely a pullet. At 5 months a male would have thin, pointy saddle feathers and this birds feathers are all rounded. I would also expect the comb and wattles to be bigger and brighter red. Looks like a black sexlink, although she could be a black orpington crossed with a buff or red...
Blue laced silver with gold(red) leakage. Looks like the double lacing from the rooster is causing a lot of "mossiness" in the background color of her feathers.
Splash laced red (gold with the mahogany gene)x (black) double laced silver will give 100% blue laced silver chicks.
Blue is a...
One of the easter eggers from the og flock, Tiger with my oldest (he's driving now!). She totally could have avoided the child, or gotten away from him at any time, if she didn't want to be held.
My current favorite easter egger Apollo. She was just preening, but she looks so fabulous
Artemis...
Can you get clearer/closer pictures of each chick? I can't tell much from this one photo, except that the brown one seems to have red feathers on the shoulders that almost always indicate male.
In my, admittedly limited (2 birds) experience, wyandottes are not big cuddlers. My current wyandotte (BLR) has pretty much never been one for touching. But she does seem to enjoy just hanging out next to me. She's been one of the sweetest birds in my flock, gets along with everyone. My first...
Got some new pictures out at the farm today
And I'm sad to report that Domino has melted out her white eyebrow. Oh well, she's still one of the nicest two malines pullets.
Okay
Amara fell into the (full!) bathtub on Monday. I didn't post it because it happened right before bedtime. Tony and Julius snuggling on the couch (after I yelled at Tony for biting Jules' ear)Daredevil Luka giving my husband heart palpitations. Pepper says "bonjour"
Definitely a pullet, no way a cockerel would have such a small, pale comb at that age! O don't see anything about the tail end that would make me think maybe male.
As to breed, australorp is probably accurate. Blue is a highly variable color, ranging from nearly indistinguishable from black to...
