I have 2 week old chicks and poults. A broody hen is currently hatching her brood and I'm considering moving the 19 chick's in with the 7 poults in their larger brooder to make room for mama and babies in the smaller brooder. The brooders are touching and only divided by 2 layers of 1/2 inch...
My poults arrived today. They're nearly 3 days old already. They are drinking water but I see them eating grit and not feed. Maybe the color contrast is the reason? I've had them for 2 hours and 2 have layer under the heat lamp on their side and when I picked them up, they couldn't lift...
In the first post bogtown chick was listing poultry types and said toads with mutts in parentheses right after.....was she wrong or are you pulling my leg?:D
My second hatch of the year is going well. I've barely opened the incubator this time and decided not to raise the humidity for lockdown. I moved 14 to the brooder this morning, 4 more hatched and I'm waiting on 11 eggs to do something. All toads.

I started with 48 chicken eggs. 39 went into lockdown and 28 made it to the brooder. My biggest hatch so far. Last year I only set 24 eggs at a time.
The end of a hatch is so sad I ended up with 5 dead and 6 that never even pipped. What is this water test I've seen mentioned a few times...
I woke up to the stuck chick still stuck so I helped it out. It's alive but not very active.
On day 15 I dropped a green egg on its end and patched it up. It had been pipped nearly as long as the partial zipped egg so I softened the membrane for it as well last night. It hatched but it's way...
One of my eggs has been zipped about an inch for the last 12ish hours. I can see it breathing but it hasn't moved. Do you think it will finish on its own?
If their dad was a barred rock they should all have white spots on their heads, boy or girl. If the mother was barred and the father was a solid color, only the males will have spots on their heads. Worked for me last spring.
