Plz Help. Is my chick a he or she?

Everything suggests one male one female. The heavily feathered (comparatively), stouter, longer bird with pale comb and tiny waddles is female. Are these two from the same cross? If so, hen would have been a barred rock. Roo would have contributed the white feet with dark surface to his daughters...

    Giant Daisies?

In your case: Female will pass her "sex" chromosome to All males. Your roo will pass one copy of his chromosome (he has two). Male offspring will be a mix: dominant barred/whatever. Dominant will win out and makes will show mostly the characteristic "female" sexlinked trait, since they only have...

Plz Help. Is my chick a he or she?

Feathering also suggests one is male... Females feather faster more evenly, in most breeds, and like all other traits has exceptions.

She looks healthy. Keep an eye on her, especially her breathing. It could be a virus. The article said too many/much treats can also cause the problem of soft shells.

    - also, you can tell by the dark feet that they are female, based on your cross. - they did NOT receive a yellow shank sex linked chromosome from the female. If they had, they would be male.

    Giant Daisies?

    - they ARE not sex linked. They got the "sex" chromosome from th EE, and are EE/0, hemizygous.

    Giant Daisies?

How? Can you re-read my post, so i dont have to go through it all again. Let me know if you have a more specific Q. Terminology is killing this discussion. A lot of terms are used tongue and cheek, but are not clearly defined. "Sex-linked" because there is ambiguity on the nomenclature of the...

You know john locke said (paraphrase): new ideas are always scrutinized and usually rejected, if for no other reason than they are not already common." (He used "opinion" but it had a different meaning back then).

    Giant Daisies?

Donrae, I NEVER SAID ALL WERE FEMALE. This is the SECOND time im saying this. AND ive already had a separate discussion. Its ONE sentence, how much more cogent can i make it? I NEVER SAID ALL WERE FEMALE. ...the cross will produce sex linked females. You can reread my post.

    Giant Daisies?

Yes, but a lot of these traits have subtleties not mentioned..."finer shades of grey", if you will. In the cross you mention males hatch "light" because white and yellow are dominant. But the male WILL have a copy of the dark gene, so? Maybe it reveals itself in a subtle way, like a black sheen...

    Let there be light!

I see. You know the racoon returned. I could tell that it tried unsuccessfully to squeeze in the same place. I know they cover a lot of territory but i put razor blades attached to the wire where it squeezed through. I saw no blood or fur but i wonder if it got sliced? AND i wonder if getting...

    Giant Daisies?

    - this information could help in a cross? If black is expressed early and another "slate" is expressed late? I dont know but it is easy to research. For certain, leg color IS used in some sex linked crosses.

    Giant Daisies?

    - in context to what i was saying! It can IF the colors are distinguishable. If both sex linked and non sex linked are yellow, for example, it wont help.

    Giant Daisies?

-yes they are slately. I have no knowledge of whether green or blue can be distinguished from black as chicks. I hope nobody posts the chart! ;) whatever the chart says doesnt mean that the difference is detectable in chicks?
  19. pa2chitown

    Giant Daisies?

    - ok, i gottcha. I questioned earlier whether the difference in these breeds could be distinguished?
