    Chicken Math Got Me Bad....

Oh no! The ones I ordered got here the day after they hatched, and I live in the middle of nowhere. The post office guy sounded excited when he called to say they were in.

    Starting my resilience flock.

Very exciting! They all have good camouflage colors, and that rooster is gorgeous. I'm in the process of building a little shelter in the woods to start a free range flock in the spring, figuring they'll mostly be game/leghorn mixes. I'm putting them some distance from my coop chickens although...

Are Chickens Ever Ostracized for Being Different?

My EE doesn't have a crest, but the OE has a small one. Mixed with legbar, I'm told.

Are Chickens Ever Ostracized for Being Different?

I have only one cream legbar and she gets along fine with the others. No one seems to notice her bouffant. There is also no issue with the Wyandotte who has a bad crossbeak. My flock of 13 has 13 different breeds and they are all happy with each other as far as I can tell.

    Compiled Questions (Ask Away) XD

No need to apologize. I'm just a little confused - I thought everyone here on BYC either had or wanted chickens. Ya know, 'cause it's a chicken site.

Fresh perspective on camouflage for free-ranging chickens

I never wanted yellow flowers in my yard because they are a warm color and it's already hot enough here. Then I married my color-blind husband. Now I put in as many yellows blues and purples as possible for him. Fortunately there are a lot of native plants in those colors to choose from.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I don't know enough about feed to attest to quality, but the chickens sure seem to love it.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

We Quakers have a policy of setting a fair price and not negotiating. I would like the whole world to operate that way.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I pay $18.99 for 50 pounds of chick starter/grower at TSC (Dumor, made by Purina). It's 20% protein.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

We've been getting highs in the 70's, dropping down to the 60's next week. Perfect fall weather.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

The other trouble is people will say they are coming by to get something and then don't. Or do and try to renegotiate price on the spot.

    Chickens in nature

Sorry if I wasn't clear that coonhounds were actually dogs, bred to hunt raccoons. Mine is a Treeing Walker Coonhound. That's him in my profile pic.

Oh a pine marten! We don't have those, but do have other mustelids like weasels and mink.
