NEED HELP PLEASE! Hen not Laying

She looks like she could be getting close (comb and face looks to be getting red). :fl Time will tell! Have you checked her vent? That can be a good indicator.

NEED HELP PLEASE! Hen not Laying

Do you have a picture of her? How do her comb/wattles look (getting redder or still light pink)? How does her vent look (dry/tight or moist and 'open')? Any squatting? How does she act (besides not laying yet)? Eating and drinking ok? Alert and pecking around etc...? If she's acting ok, I'd just...

    EMERGENCY! **Graphic Yucky Photos**

I definitely will not be attempting to assist manually again. She is no longer bleeding and has been up and about today. Vent still looks "plugged", but looks like feces instead of fried egg. Slightly less swollen. Her droppings overnight were liquidy (probably whatever could pass around the...

    EMERGENCY! **Graphic Yucky Photos**

Ok. Thank you Ok. Thank you. I appreciate everyone's responses. I will continue the Calcium + D tablets and hope for the best. 🤞

    EMERGENCY! **Graphic Yucky Photos**

Thank you for your response! I did give her a calcium citrate w/ D tablet when I washed her up (just before writing this post this afternoon). I'm quite certain she wasn't pecked, as she didn't start bleeding from her vent until I stuck my finger in it and attempted to help her pass the "mass"...

    EMERGENCY! **Graphic Yucky Photos**

She does not have an injury on the outside that I can see. There is no flystrike. Her vent is extremely swollen and very hard. The gunk in her vent seems to be plugging it (it looks like dried eggs). First, I was concerned for vent gleet, but when I went to wash her, I felt how hard and...

    Valbazen mash

Valbazen is dosed individually at ~0.1mL per pound (so 0.5 mL for a 4-6 lb bird). If you make a mash, how will you know if they are getting the correct dose? Some birds may eat too much and some too little... heavier birds need more than lighter birds. I don’t know how you could control that if...

    EMERGENCY! **Graphic Yucky Photos**

One of my Buff Orp hens (3 yr old) has suddenly (within the last 3 days) developed a huge mass above her vent. I have given her calcium tablet and epsom soak. I also tried to help clear the vent out (as it seems to be "plugged" with whitish/yellowish gunk). Now, her vent is bleeding. She has...

    Deworming Again...

I'm tagging @dawg53 - hopeful that they may have some answers. 👆 This is a "no". Both Valbazen and SafeGuard will settle out in water and dosing will not be accurate (or effective). There is a product called SafeGuard Aquasol that can be added to water, but it only treats roundworms and cecal...

    Too big for a roost?

My bantams roost fine with my big girls - they all have a 4" roost.:)

    Somebody crowed this morning

My guess would be the Buff Orp, based on comb and wattles development/color (but I'm no expert)!

Feather sheaths on all my chickens feathers??

My guess is that she's had some type of molt earlier than might be expected, but if she's acting ok and doesn't seem like she's being bullied, I wouldn't worry. Is she laying eggs?

Feather sheaths on all my chickens feathers??

Oh, that's a bit early for a molt (many birds don't molt their first year), but probably not unheard of. Is she acting ok? Eating and drinking? Edited to add: It could also be feather picking (that usually leaves bald spots, though). Is she low in the pecking order?

Feather sheaths on all my chickens feathers??

How old is she? Looks like normal molting to me.

    Logo and rebrand

My advice is to avoid cursive (or any super ornate lettering) as it can be difficult for some to read, and you want the name to be very clear and legible. I like the font in the first 2 iterations. :)

First time layer questions from a first time pullet mom

Definitely an individual personality/breed thing. Some are super vocal and others aren't. My Leghorn sounds like she's being murdered every morning (while she's frantically searching for a place to lay her egg that ISN'T a nesting box) and my bantam Ameraucana makes the weirdest noise I've ever...

I'm going to tag a few people who might be able to help: @dawg53 @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive ?

    Lost chicken, happy ending!!

As I was reading your twisted tale, my heart was racing thinking about poor Alice wandering around, in the dark of night, nary a flockmate or simplest sense of direction to guide her - predators lurking around every sidewalk and watering tank. She must have felt shocked, bewildered, and...
